Should I buy a pf800?

I'm a fan, and I rarely get any louder than you. For some reason it just sounds better to me than the others.

Back in the 80's I bought 100 watt Marshall, not because I needed to be super loud, but because I like the sound, even when it wasn't cranked. There was a bottom end thump that the 50 watt Marshall just didn't have at the same volume.

Besides, it's better to have the power and not need it than need it and not have it.

Personally, I'd spend that money on something smaller and lightweight since you don't really neeed the PF800.

Try 60 pounds. I had this same setup and this is one of the reasons why I sold it.

My SVT-CL is 80 lbs. but I don't care. The PF-800 is a good sounding amp, I'd get it.

I'm in a trio with a cajon drummer, so my rumble 100 is plenty. I often find myself dreaming about "what ifs and down the roads..." but in reality I dont NEED anything now. I've resolved to save my money and wait for the future scenario to present itself. Then I can buy EXACTLY what I need.

Do you like the PF sound?
Would you like something a little bigger than the hartke, or a different tone? Maybe there's a middle ground answer. You could get something 100-200w, and save some money.

Just because it's a good deal doesn't mean it's the right amp, or the right time to buy.

This is too coincidental. I was thinking exactly the same thing for the last few months. I have a GK MB500 and Eden double stack for my mains. But I have a GK MB200 I've been trying to match up to some small cab-- I've been through a half dozen cabs and none fit. Also I have two basses I'm no longer fond of and one online that I MIGHT like. Then I realized-- I really do have everything I really need. I guess I've been on TB too long. I've been infected with GAS!

Nothing wrong with the OP buying/trading up to the PF800. No idea what he'll use it for being as his drummer uses a cajon. But all the power to him. Now he'll be on a quest for a cab to go with the PF800 head! GAS strikes again! I say GO FOR IT.

I like to be a GAS buster whenever possible

I see the value of a bigger amp, like tones, headroom, and the bands and venues it allows you to play. But In OP scenario, it just seems like overkill.

PS I'm the one with the cajon. Sounds like OP has no drums at all!

Micro vr? Personally, it sounds better, looks better, nice and small, and is 150w @ 8ohms 200w @ 4ohms. $300 brand new for the head. $600 brand new for the 210 combo package. That just seems to me like a far better option for you. I've seen the combo selling used for about 400 too, if you want to look for one.

I found a Craigslist post nearby that is an Ampeg pf800 head with the 2x10 cab for only $600. I won't ever need that much power, but it just seems like a deal I can't pass up (my 75w combo never gets turned up past 5(no drums) and I mainly gig a rumble 15 for acoustic gigs.) Is it worth getting to future proof my setup? I'd probably never need another amp. Convince me out of it

If he's open up to trade for my hartke 75w combo and some cash, it's a done deal

Sound good to me - my PF-800/PF-210HE is the bee's knees.

I never see those PF cabs for less than list, unless they are used at US$250 and $150 shipping at the 'verb.

I own a pf800 and run it into a GK410 neo. I have never needed everything this rig can do but I use it for almost everything. It speaks with authority at any volume. I've owned this rig for several years and it gets a lot of use. It's never failed me and it never fails to get a lot of compliments.
