Should I go Naked?

Im having a neck built for an new to me body that came with no neck. Its made of Cherry, graphite stabalizer bars are installed for the slightly weaker than maple wood. The fretboard is Canary-wood. I am having a hard time deciding between Abalonee FB dots or no dots at all. Of only the two choices which would you choose. Oh and the body will be close to a Gibson Inverness/Kelly Green.

Saw the title of the thread. Answer is yes, always.
However, as regards dots on the neck, answer is no.

i voted "naked" thinking that if there were no dots = easier to do the fretless conversion when you're tired of the fences!

When I order a neck I'll go sans markers, otherwise dots are OK but very small dots are better. I'm not a fan of blocks.

You could always go sans dots then after the build add the stick on vinyl abolone dots or blocks or whatever. There are some nice ones out there on eBay and completely reversible.

Abalone content may cause you CITES issues in the future - I would steer clear of that... (For example - ALLPARTS will no longer ship necks to Canada if they have abalone dots!)

IMHO, with that combo of shape & color, abalone all the way!!

Here's my story...years ago, I am assembling my 1st homebrew bass with Warmoth parts.

About the neck...ebony fretboard/bird's eye maple.
My friend at the Music Store (the guy ordering it) sez-
"...I know you don't want fake dots on this. Abalone dots, right"?
Well, that would add $180 to an already expensive neck.
IIRC, $20 per.
My reply "No damn dots".
His reply: "I don't know if they can do that".
After arguing, he finally calls...Warmoth sez "No problem".
"See"?

Over the years, I have bought 4 exact necks.

Early on, a lot thought it was a fretless neck.
I like the look of no dots.

Since my first choice is not one of your options (blocks), I would go with dots. Unmarked necks always look unfinished to me. But do your thang. Be you. Etc.

I'm a fan of no dots with some type of inlay at the octave.
