Should I sell the P Bass?

My P bass is my main recording axe and can never go away. I never use the jazz pick up in it. I don’t think it’s necessary. Good luck to you

Yes, sell it if you have no use for it.

No, do not sell it if you have a use. Do you record bass parts for other musicians/bands/projects? Then you need that bass in case that's what they want on the record.

Depends on what other basses you have, and what's your money situation... If possible, I'd try to find YOUR P bass first. It may take a while. In the meantime, enjoy this one as much as you can.

Then when you find YOUR P bass, buy it and sell this one. Or maybe a trade will work out.

If you cannot buy YOUR P bass without selling this one first, then sell it first, but don't spend the money

Or if you have other basses that can kinda do the P, start selling this one at the top of what you can reasonably expect, so you're not pressured to sell it at any price. If it sells, you have other basses to use...

I am a Jazz Bass guy. I have never had a recording engineer, sound man, or anyone else tell me that I should have a P-bass. And if anyone ever did would ignore them.

Keep it. You might rediscover it down the line when/if you get your fill of the asymmetrical necks, the maple fingerboards, and the bridge single coils.

Of course you should sell it. TB hates P basses, especially ones with tort.

You might be able to make a trade for the P-Bass you want. I have had great success in trades like this.

Yup, trade it for something else. Sure there's someone out there with a bass you may prefer and worth the same money who would be willing to trade with you. Just did that with my MIM P bass yesterday. Love the sound, not the feel or neck, so I traded it for a different bass (a Spector) as my Peavey Fury satisfies my P Bass fix but with a neck I do like.

You should have another option in the poll - trade for another bass or carrots.

Sell it. Got rid of the 2 I had. Not enough bridge pickup goodness/nuggets for my tastes, you know, due to the lack of one on a Pbass.

However, if you are money-rich, don't sell anything unless you hate it.

I should also clarify, I really do like the look of this bass - its a classic. Under examination, the tort could be better, but its not offensive. I generally prefer the tone of a maple fretboard for a P Bass, but I knew that going into this. Come to think of it, I would probably prefer an Ash body as well. Of course, that thinking got me into a 57ri P that I didn't bond with at all. In fact I might have gone sort of entirely the other direction on this one because of that bass.

If I sold, I would still have a real Fender Jazz, and a number of other basses that could pinch-hit for a P Bass just fine. But the P Bass just has a certain mid-range quality to it that none of the others can quite nail.

As far as i see you want a more aggresive/bright toned P Bass. Then wait until you find a better alternative before selling/trading it. Until then you might sort things out with playing near the bridge and turning knobs on the EQ. The thing is, you can find a bass exactly looks like what you want and with the same specs you want, but then you can witness it might not sound like you imagined or vise versa. I had that experience before

Trade it but don't just sell it. You don't need the J pickup. I have two PJ's and two P's, I very seldom if ever use the jazz PU. If you think you're not happy with it hit the stores and pawn shops, try everything you can get your hands on. I bet you'll find with a little tweaking an TLC you have the bass you always wanted.

I’ve had a P Bass under my bed for 10 years.... I haven’t touched it or looked at it. It’s only there for security reasons.

Keep your P Bass. End of story.
