This was not unusual of the CBS era instrument, especially towards the end of their ownership. Those of us that were there then can attest. Fortunately most of them like this have not survived, but they are out there.
Having been a working musician from that era that actually played and owned Fender musical instruments as well as amps from this era, I truly do not get the attraction. I would be much more comfortable buying a reissue piece of this era and save thousands of dollars in the process.
Keep in mind, buying a late 60s-early 70’s Fender bass is not the same as buying say a Les Paul, which was a truly great high end instrument, from the same era.
