Should we DEFINE "Mini Rig of DOOM!!!"???

Which gives me a wonderful idea!

The ability to carry your entire rig(bass/effects/etc. included) up the dreaded flight of stairs in a single trip. :D

:D Then, we'd need to start a thread entitled, "Steps of Doom - Show your staircases"!

Both my apartment and our practise room are up 5 flights of stairs (no elevators either :( ), so it's always an issue for me.

Still, I can manage one 15kg cab in each hand, a bass on the back and a MB LMII in a shoulder bag (on a good day ;) ).

The "mini" part, comes from the size of the components, the "doom" part, comes more from the number of stairs than the number of watts! ;)

Cool stuff so far, some of my "rules" are in jest, (note the time of the posting) but I like the idea of one trip in, set up time a few minutes or less including tuning. I think stairs define the mini-rig. Maybe if you have to go back down to park and carry in one item it's ok but two trips with something in each hand wouldn't qualify. This doesn't mean dragging a 410 around and calling it one piece, you should be able to comfortably handle your cab with one hand and shake someone's hand with the other and say hi. And of course it needs to be enough rig for the gig. For those gigs where drinking a beer wouldn't be appropriate, a soda glass or water bottle would suffice. For those gigs where you park a block away and carry it all in in one trip I guess you'd have to walk a block with it and not be worn out when you got there.

I would consider my setup a "mini rig of doom", but it takes me two trips if I don't use a cart. And there are *always* stairs. Ok, maybe it just seems that way ;)

First trip: gig knapsack and iAMP500C.
Second trip: bass in gig bag and wizzy.

One of my rules is no more than 50 pounds carried in my hands per trip. I can physically carry the iAMP500C and the wizzy at the same time but it becomes d*mn hard to open doors :D

Well, for me, my rig is mini, but its me.

450w head (well, the head is maybe a head of doom?)
115 cab
210 cab

I can take all that, plus my effects in one trip. cabs in each hand, amp/effects in backpack. Sure, it weighs like 130pounds, but its mini enough.

your rig is the kind of rig that folks want to make sure does not fall under the umbrella of "mini rig"... doom or no. while, yes it's physically possibly for you to carry it in, i have a hard time looking at 2x10 and 1x15 and thinking "mini". part of the deal with a mini rig of doom is that looking at it, you're amazed by what you hear from it. if i see your setup, i pretty well expect it would do a good job filling a decent sized venue.

so for amps, it's squeezing a lot of power into a relatively light package. and for cabs, it's using smaller, lighter boxes while squeezing higher spl out of drivers. i guess it's not that 2x10's in general are considered "mini" or not... it's the design of particular 2x10's could be mini-ish. for instance, for 1x15's, there are few that i would consider to be mini cabs. but the standard bag end or traveller markbass definitely fall under that classification.

This is the sight that greets me, every time I have to leave my apartment to go anywhere (no elevator, btw) :( .

This is also why I don't own an Ampeg and an 8x10" ;) .
