Traditional placement of the thumbrest serve absolutely no purpose for me, but it gives it that classic look on my p-bass that I love.
lol... I've never seen anyone do that. Oh, well. I think some of the earliest Fender ideas were based on how they IMAGINED bass players might like to do it, not having any historical precedent to base their innovations on.
I agree, a thumb rest/tug bar completes the classic look of classic basses.
