Here's one of my first an Excel 5 string in Wineburst finish...
I really miss this one.

ooooh- why oh why did you let that one go??!!

I love the cocobolo and walnut, but if I ever come across enough $ to build a custom, I think it will be a 5 string Elan w/ a burst finish.

I foolishly sold this locally a few years ago and I look for it when I go into Sam Ash or Guitar Center hoping somehow it will turn up again for me.

Very nice. My first Alembic was a Distillate, in Walnut, that I sold to my bass teacher. I'd dearly love to have that one (83D2915) back.

Thanks! It really got me into colo bolo quite a bit. The pickup selector is very cool, diff. from the blend knobs on my other basses. Its position can get in the way for some stuff though.

Nice basses. I happen to like Alembic styling, but acknowledge it really is not everyone's cup of tea. I miss the medium scale and the incredibly tight, solid feel of my Alembics (owned 2 over the years, none right now), but the weight I'm glad to miss. I've often thought if I bought another new Alembic, I might go for an Excel, with the swamp ash body. It'd have to be lighter than all that mahogany, cocobolo, etc. :D

echo008,

It's all maple. The paint job was $200 extra at the time! :) I can not fault Alembic's build quality. It took a very hard shot not long after I got it and hasn't ever let me down except once, the battery died while I was auditioning for a band. If the battery dies it makes a really nice (if heavy) canoe paddle, or anchor...

I was looking at it not long ago and thinking that it really has held up well for the amount of use it has seen.

Peace,
Puff

Is it a 32 inch Spoiler? After all this time it does seem to have held up. Bet she sounds better and better every year!
She will probably last you another 20 years at least :)

32", yes. She shows no signs of giving out at all. Just nicely worn in! :) I recently acquired an Fbass BN5 so the Spoiler hasn't seen a lot (read: any) of action since last May.
