This is the birth year toy that really has me drooling.
The bass that could have been my birth year bass did not come on to the market until a year later.

I'm 1971, so I'm thinking I'll have to get one of these Ampeg Dan Armstrong lucite basses, before I pass from this plane. Always loved the '70s lucite guitars and from the looks of the prices on Reverb, they're not even that expensive. That's probably because they play like poo and no one wants them, but I'm willing to sound like poo as long as I look great. 
Actually, now that I've watched a few demos of them, these babies sound great! Sustain for days and a wide variety of tonal options. Now, I'm starting to seriously GAS for one of these. Anybody got a spare '56 P-bass they want to give me? That's the only way I'm going to have a birth-year bass.

this thread makes me wonder who the youngest member is on here and if they have much interest in having such a new bass. i got my first bass at 17 and i didn't have a thought of finding a 17 year old bass. i was just happy to get a bass. i guess it's not until we are older that such a thought becomes meaningful. at that point the instrument we seek may be more valuable and possibly rarer so the search is more difficult. when my son was born i bought him a rickenbacker with a manufacture date as close as possible to his birthday so he doesn't have this dilemma later on. this probably means he will hate rickenbackers or not even want to play bass at all but at least he'll have it if he wants it. in the meantime i get to play it. 
Mine is a 1968 Wilson Sapphire. Built by the guitar side of WEM amps down in Surrey,England.

Found one for us! I tried to avoid posting a Fender (nothing wrong with them!), and came across the Alembic Essence. I don't own one, but these are nice examples.
Got a homemade P bass made from Fender American parts my dad made when I was born year 2000!

Mine is only half birth year, the body is from a 1980 Westone (ok, maybe 81, but prove it 
), the neck is from a Samick Corsair short scale. It has plenty of dings and scratches, but nowhere near as many as I do!!
