That is exactly what my first bass was, only mine looked brand new in 1971 when I got it.

I had two of those back in the mid to late '80s. I did some significant mods to both of them.

I've been contemplating a 1980 bass, but don't know what I would go with. I don't like any of the odd/pointy basses of that period so it would probably either be a Fender or Japanese lawsuit bass.

Why not a G&L L1000 Hog? I've always loved those.

I've been intrigued by the concept of owning a birth year bass for years now and I recently got my hands on one (not that 1994 is a particularly challenging find) - the great 1994 G&L LB-100 below.

I know plenty of folks around here share the same interest so I'm keen to see a timeline of bass guitars that came into existence the same year you did and hear any interesting stories that go along with them. Show me what you've got!

Hmmm....I've never seen a bass, let a lone had the opportunity to purchase one, that was made in 1950. Precision came out in 1951...missed it by that much!

I was never able to acquire a "birth year bass" because I'm a year older than the Fender Precision Bass.

Instead, I purchased a '63 Vintage Precision Bass because years ago, I'd bought the Beach Boys Concert album and noticed the instrument that Brian Wilson was holding. It was the first time that I ever noticed a bass, and that caused me to learn about the instrument and to start listening to the bass lines in songs.

So... my white '63 Precision Bass is my "birth year bass"
