Show me your compact pedalboard setup

Got tired of shuffling things around and moving back and forth between different sized boards, so I finally gave in and grabbed a D'addario XPND. Still gotta get a case for it (eventually), but I have to say... I'm digging it. Build quality is top notch, and I was able to expand it enough to fit my slightly-larger Grey Stache on it. I have about 4" to spare if I were to ever want to add anything, and, honestly, I'm fairly certain the HPF *would* fit underneath if I needed to free up that room as well.

Also, since this board no longer has anything crazy and/or digital on it, I just moved to a 1Spot Wall Wart. Not noisy in the slightest.

I seem to constantly switch between two boards. Depends on what I feel like but I swap stuff from a Metro16 to a Novo18. I have too many pedals at this point and could probably populate two usable boards but I have some favorites that I don't have duplicates of. Cioks DC7 and Powermini ride underneath and can easily be swapped (dual lock). If I want all the toys or am trying to make a decision on something they all get loaded up, but if I'm going somewhere out of town or just want simple I use the smaller board.

Have old Pelican cases that can fit either, but sometimes it is nice just to have that Metro16 and the light bag over my shoulder.

October 2022 update:
Out:
  • Darkglass Alpha Omega Ultra: I tried to get along with this thing for three solid years. Love the features, but for the life of me couldn't get an overdrive tone I liked in a mix. I like the clean pre-amp tone (excellent graphic EQ), but not as much as the pre-amp in my Tone Hammer 500. So off it goes for now.
  • Hosa pancake patch cables: Nothing wrong with them, just wanted the lower-profile EBS flat cables
In:
  • Idiotbox Blower Box: The hype is real. Incredible tones (especially in a live mix) at pretty much any gain level. Has a ton of lows available if you want it. Responds beautifully to playing dynamics.
  • Barn3 Ox9: Just makes the H9 so much more livable and usable, and I love how well it integrates with the H9 chassis. Sticks out a little bit depth-wise on my Nano+, but I'll live. It's still super stable.
  • EBS gold flat patch cables: What can I say about these that everyone doesn't already know? Awesome cables, and super easy to work with.

I can’t quite get a great distortion sound out of the HX Stomp though so I’m a pedal light for my liking!
Mind telling us about the capo?

Also, IME with the Stomp, the blend function is the game changer with most dirt. For me, it instantly made any and all distortion better.

Sure! It's the best preamp pedal I've used and I've tried a good few now.

It has two DI outs:

- The clean DI out sounds amazing for a providing a really strong clean direct (dry) signal - this is why I plug into this pedal first directly from my bass.
- The other preamp out is post-preamp/s and EQ (wet) which sounds unbelievably good.

It has 3 in-built preamps which can be combined in a number of way and it has two effects loops - checkout the PDF on the manufacturer's website which explains how it all works (CAPO – Multiple Preamp | Jad Freer Audio)

I put the rest of my pedals through the effects loop which is post-preamps/EQ - there is also one on the other side which is pre-preamps/EQ.

You can't make this pedal sound bad. I mainly use to as a tone enhancer utilising the EQ for a low/high boost when playing a Jazz bass and/or the saturation circuit. The saturation circuit is immense and I believe this is what makes it sound so good. Two great features are the 'DEEP' and 'BITE' switches which makes your bass sound fat (with some sub bass) and present in a mix (adding some presence).

I have made a series of demo videos here:

https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLjNdLPD-dxCc1v9cFRf1NXL2R4JI9__qo

You would need to listen with good headphones to hear the subtle nuances but I honestly don't think the videos quite do the pedal justice. It sounds unreal through my amp and when I have recorded with it.

One thing to bear in mind is that it requires 350mA power so I ended up using a current doubler cable - video here:

It is expensive but I can't imagine ever selling this on - whereas the last 5/6 preamps I've had have been sold.

Hope this helps!

Could kick the tuner off for some dirt; use the Stomps tuning function?

Yes good shout - I've thought about it but I really don't like the tuner on the HX Stomp - I'm so used to the BOSS TU3 - it seems to be perfectly calibrated. I find the Line 6 one to be a headache - like I come away from tuning not quite confident that i'm bang on as it displays slightly sharp or slightly flat most of the time where the BOSS would show a green LED for in-tune. Maybe it's just me - I should spend more time with it! I would love to fit my Darkglass Alpha Omicron in that space : )

Thanks

Recently downsized my board, after realizing I only use three of my pedals regularly, and deciding that lugging that big board around isn't really worth it. The new Nano board is about 10 lbs lighter than my old one - bag included. :)

That looks great - intrigued by that bass overdrive pedal - just watched this and it sounds great!

The Boss TU-3 is, compared to more 'modern' tuners, not very accurate, only 1%. So, with the Boss it's easier to be in tune...

I have this feeling of not being confident with a strobe-mode tuner; they always move a little, so when can I stop tuning?:)

Thank you. I’ve been through a few different overdrives, but the 4 on the Floor ticks most of my boxes. A good range of overdrive settings, drive/clean blend and high/low pass filters makes this an ideal overdrive pedal for me.

Nice board! I’m really interested what you think about the Capo. First time I’ve seen it and checked some YouTube videos right away and I must say I’m very impressed so far. Might be mine in the near future...

Edit: Sorry, answered when I saw the post and then read your review. Thanks! Will order…

Latest update: replaced the Broughton SV-Pre with a Master Effects Super Two Hundred on my main board. It's still surprisingly compact, despite the side jacks. I prefer the Metro16 form factor to my Nano+ actually; it fits better in my gig bag and has a less awkward footprint onstage (for me). This board is for ampless gigs, which make for the majority of our gigs.

Bass > Sennheiser XSW-D > Broughton Joshwah > Broughton OmniComp (fast attack, slow release, about 1:4-1:8 ratio, little blend) > Damnation Audio MBD2 (with the 20 dB boost enabled) > Master Effects Super Two Hundred > Broughton L+HPF > DI. All powered by a Truetone CS6 which sits under the board.

I keep the Radial ProDI off-board for two reasons.

1) I have three setups I regularly use, this way, I don't need to buy three DI boxes.
2) About 2 out of 10 gigs, the sound people require us to use their DI boxes rather than ours, so, eh.
