The backup DI is intentionally passive - the backup path ought to be as autonomous as possible.
That's exactly my thinking. I am using JDI myself...

Nice board! However; our sound engineer prefers my preamp-DI pedal(s) over regular DI's. He says that when I bring a regular DI (such as Radial), we rely too much on the desk preamp and he needs extra time to build the bass sound. If I bring a good preamp-DI, he gets a pre-built sound and needs to do minor tweaks only.
Mind you; the band in question is crowded (10 people), so every minute on sound check is valuable.
He likes my Origin BassRig SVT and Tech21 VTDI equally; for that matter. The settings I use are:
Those settings produce a similar output; so I use the Origin as my main (like it a little better) and Tech21 on the road (fits into gig bag easier).
- Origin: Output 13, Blend 17, Drive 9:30, Bass 13, Mid 12, Treble 12, Ultra Hi activated
- Tech21: Output 13, Blend 17, Character 9:30, Drive 9:30, Low 13, Mid 12, Treble 12, Cab Sim and Bite activated
Yep, great products, and the owners are very nice (and it is almost local to me).+1 for the guptech!
Just got to know them recently. Ordered the model T preamp and like it a lot. Too bad, there's a pond in between but with their rates costs are not too bad to have it shipped.Yep, great products, and the owners are very nice (and it is almost local to me).

Something similar actually happened to me once – the sender of my wireless unloaded in, like, 20 minutes rather than 4 hours. And the Sennheiser's receiver doesn't have an emergency input for such situations. Had to pry the DI box off my board to be able to plug in directly.I can see an advantage having the pasive DI box as part of my signal chain. In case anything happens to my signal chain (faulty power strip, broken pedal etc.) I can simply take a spare instrument cable and plug it directly into the DI box (bypassing all the other pedals). The XLR cable is already plugged into the DI box...

This was the reason that made me put the DI off-board for good, the other two points mentioned above (multiple boards, sound people requiring their own DI) actually are perks.
So it just seems to get smaller as I get older... but right now, this is about as good as I think I've ever had it.
I swapped my Ashdown OriginAL for the MXR M81 (3rd time owning this and hopefully someone will slap some sense into me should I ever try and get rid of it again!)
Happy as a clam

It's in MultiBand (MB) mode, and yes, it is always on... set and forget. Such an amazing pedal...I have the same EBS pedals as well. Do I see the switch on the Multicomp in tubesim position? Do you use it always on?
I didn't think that this qualified as compact until some guy on Reddit told me I needed to get a bigger board and "let my pedals breathe". I'll let you all be the judge:

Rockboard 3.1, taking advantage of the compressor and tuner being always on, along with the tall barefoot buttons making the back row useable.
Now, there's an ultra-compact and ultra-tidy board!i miss the compact board arrangement of mine… the 3 leafs are now in a bogger boards and the ss/bs was sold. simple rig w/ a complex tone. View attachment 4874794
