Show me your compact pedalboard setup

A new compact pedalboard project, starting with this small flight case that I used to use to store CDs.

I'm thinking to use it upside down with the pedals fixed to the detachable lid. There should be space for four Boss pedals, Radial DI box, and the same 18v lithium drill battery as my previous project.

Been lurking around for a while, so I guess it’s about time for a post. With the Noble arriving yesterday my compact, and only board for that sake, is nearing completion. For now at least. There’s still room for a T-16, just have to cross my fingers for a new batch arriving soon.

Also not quite sure if I’ll keep the Xerograph og swap it out with a Wonderlove v1.

I removed the Polytune to make room for a wireless/tuner unit I had boxed up in storage. I initially didn’t try because I didn’t think it would fit. I’m enjoying the freedom again.

Grab some backup batteries and cords to go from your bass to the wireless sending unit - Shure has discontinued this model.
 
I wonder if the demise of the GLXD has anything to do with the bandwidth it occupies. The ITU, FCC, etc., have been reallocating frequencies quite a bit over the last several years. Governments appropriate specific frequency spectrums and then sell them off to cellular companies, handheld radio manufacturers, and other businesses that have a wireless product to sell and lobbying clout. I’ve run across some wireless units made for the music industry which are no longer to be used because they occupy the same spectrum that has been sold to someone else and they have exclusive rights to it now. They’ve been carving away at the frequency spectrums used by amateur radio around the world for years.
 
Not exactly the common use of the term 'pedal board' but it is compact and portable.

Decided to get my first bass pedal. Tuner. I don't need any effects at this point--my current skill level makes enough of its own 'special' effects on its own. I didn't really want a board on the floor. I also did not want to attach velcro to the amp surface. Decided to design and 3D print my own single pedal holder that mounts under the handle clamp. Turned out pretty well. Still a little tweaking of the design I could do.

So what’s your finding on the LI vs DI situation with the HXS?

Honestly I think a lot of it would depend on the mixer and the quality of the Mic pre. If you use a DI with a line level device like any of the many DSP devices it actually takes a strong signal, lowers it, sends it across the length of the cable, then boosts it again at the mixer. If you have a quality mixer with good mic preamps, then you probably won't hear much difference.

If you use a line isolator, it is still transformer isolated just like a DI which will protect your digital device from phantom power and noise but the signal is not attenuated. It hits the mixer at line level. Some mixers have the ability to bypass the mic preamps and accept a line level signal, so you are removing the need to re-amplify the signal and you get a stronger signal to help maintain your tone over longer cable runs.

My regular mixer (a Presonus StudioLive) is currently in the shop getting repaired so I recorded the following clips using my Allen & Heath Zedi10. It has buttons on it for line level if you use the XLR input, or you can use a balanced 1/4" input. My samples were recorded using the two outputs of the HX Stomp. One into a Radial JDI connected to the mixer's XLR input on channel 2. The other output connected to a Walrus Audio Canvas line isolator running across the same length, same brand, XLR cable into the "Line In" 1/4" jack using an XLR to TRS adapter on channel 3.

If you listen on good speakers, you can hear what sounds like a little more top end with the LI vs the DI...but the DI does seem to have a little fuller sound. Of course, that could be due to the JDI as they do have a Jensen transformer in them which is known to impart some character.

I prefer the Canvas to the JDI. The JDI tends to soften the sound just a bit. The Canvas has more bite. The Canvas sounds more scooped. I think that is probably because the JDI has more mid-emphasis.
