My MIM P-Bass.
I swapped out the pg for a tort pg, stripped off the sunburst finish, reshaped the back of it a bit and stained it. I stained the fingerboard with ebony.
Otherwise it's stock.

How hard was it to remove the finish? It looks real nice. Was the wood in good enough shape to just clear coat it if you had wanted too?

The finish was a bit difficult, so I used a belt sander and just sanded through it. I tried using a stripper. No luck. I used a torch and a scraper...but the finish just exploded like fireworks into little pieces wherever the heat hit it.
I could have just clear coated it as the stain only colored it a bit. Stain actually brings out flaws instead of hiding them. But as you can see, they use wood with less than ideal looking grain, and the wood pieces aren't matched when using painted and burst finishes.
At some point I may buy (or make) a body with nice wood and grain, but all in all for a MIM that looked like a toy, with the burst finish and white pickguard, it now looks more like a classic ol' Fender P-Bass.
It has great tone...and for $299 it's a great bass that has been my favorite of all the ones I've owned in the past 25+ years. Who'd have thought a cheap MIM would do that for me?
