Haha those were out for a quick photo, the only things stored on stands are 3 variations of Fender basses and one strat, everything else is stored in hardshell cases, pulled out to play, wiped down and put back. Fenders will survive a fall off a stand, I have sadly had that tested a few times.

I was really lucky when I moved into this house, there's four alcoves perfect for hanging basses. Not a rack, per se, but a cool way to display the basses nonetheless...

...hallway to bedroom...

...entrance to kitchen...

Downlight in a couple of them in the entryway, pretty cool at night...

since there's only four alcoves I hung some instruments around in the main room where there's a pool table and bar, just seemed to make sense...

It's pretty cool for parties, etc.

I saw that someone was making these hangers commercially, so I went down to Lowe's and bought some wood and made my own. It was a great weekend project, and making the Peavey and Fender signs with a wood burning tool was something I hadn't tried before. Fairly cheap and and a fun project!

Where studs weren't available, I used these to hold the hanger to the drywall...

thanks a lot guys - great ideas and pics of your "racks".
I've narrowed down a few ideas to incorporate into something I will design up and start working on. It will "look" like a wall rack, but yet somewhat freestanding and incorporate my amp and misc. gear. I have a father -inlaw who is an electrician - so I will abuse him for lighting this beast. I will send pics pre-build to get feedback (if that's ok)...it will be more of a screenshot of my computer...
Now I need to get rid of a full size shuffle board that we NEVER use...make room for more gear! lol

Wal, P, 60's spaced Jazz, 70's spaced Jazz and a RIC. VERY cool! Geddy HAS been playing a P a little bit on the latest tour, so a Rush cover band could be calling his name!

I think Geddy should put those dusty old Fenders away and pull out the Wals and Steinberger, keep the Rics

Thanks. The Wal was an epic pilgrimage for me almost 30 years in the making. Of all the problems I have, this is one I'm glad I have.

b) what humidity do you shoot for as a target? I'm in portland OR, and I get about 35% upwards of 42%

Usually 50-55%. I live in a country where 80-100% is the norm. I have a separate dry cabinet for the strings. They last longer.
