show off some cheap rigs of doom?

I had this Cheap Rig of Doom sitting under my nose for a couple years now...I was a cheap rig that almost wasn't. I was about to sell the head and decided to plug it into the Sonic cabinets you see just for the heck of it. The tone blows me away!!!

A Yamaha G100 II head...two channels, the clean channel is very Fendery, the overdrive channel sounds great too and the amp has a single parametric EQ section to really dial in the tone. Cost, about $100.

The cabinets are Sonic T15 PA cabinets which came from the factory with EVM ProLine 15s in them. I turned the horns off and stacked them up. Cost, about $170 on eBay (for the pair). Gotta love local pickup only auctions for somewhat obscure gear! They were essentially brand new too...a company bought them for a sound system for their factory area but OSHA said that everyone would have to wear hearing protection, so they sold the speakers (one pair to me) and let the workers have boomboxes by their workstations. Thanks OSHA!!!

Total cost, approx $280!

This was my 1st real rig, purchased 1 1/2 years ago.

Total price - $500.

The two bands I play with are fairly loud, so I upgraded the amp to a Genz-Benz GBE600 at $450.

Estimating the cost of the GK at $200, the total cost of this rig is ~ $750, so I'm not sure if it qualifies as cheap. It is expensive to me, but I'm cheap:)

If the audience is the judge then it sounds great as I had lots of compliments on my sound after this particular show.

The Fender is old-school solid state so it tends to be a bit harsh on its own; I run a Zoom B1 in front of it (you can kinda see it on the ground in that pic) using their 'tube emulation' setting and it rounds things out nicely while adding a light touch of grit (and makes it sound pretty similar to my $250 Neo-Pak).

The Madison cabs are really a great value IMHO, and I starting using the Fender head more after my Neo-Pak cut out on me during one 96+ degree gig. I still use the Neo-Pak for indoor stuff at this point with the Madison cabs and get great results. If you can forgive my crappy playing this video, you'll get a fairly good idea of how well the Madison stuff keeps up with a full band mix (this example is just using my MB210):

I couldn't let BFISHER1970's Ampeg 8x10s go unpurchased so I made the run across the border on Wednesday and picked them up. He's a great guy to deal with!

Eli stopped by tonight to help me get them out of the family room and down into my basement (THANKS Eli!!!)

I popped my Yamaha G100 II head on them (connected the cabinets in series since the Ampegs are 4 ohms each and the Yamaha wouldn't like a 2 ohm load) and had at it.

With a whopping 75 or 80 watts from the Yamaha (it's rated 100 watts into 4 ohms and it's presently running at 8) I could barely turn it up past 1/4 without the house starting to vibrate apart.

Even at conversational levels, Sixteen 10s were causing my E string to feed back....wow!

So as it sits, it's an $800 rig...not that cheap but for what it is and for how it sounds it's a bargain.

Now to figure out which head to pair them with... After we test drove this rig, I mentioned looking at the 1900 watt Carvin B1500 to Eli and he nearly fell over he was laughing so hard.
