I'm loving this thread.

It is so easy get caught in the "gear of the week" trap. It is hard to resist and hunt for your tone while keeping budget in mind.

My gear budget has been set by my wife to not exceed gig income. Given the fact that gigs pay next to nothing in this town...

I can't really quantify the total "cost" because it's built from things I already had on-hand. The MAG300 was $300, and the speakers are out of a 4x10 cab that I paid $200 for, so like what, maybe $400, counting the wood? The only thing I had to buy when I built it was the handles...
It's 4ohms so it's getting full power, and it gets LOUD, too loud for playing in a basement if I want to crank it up that loud. It handles a low B better than my ported Avatar 2x10...

I guess my rig isn't the cheapest but it definately wasn't expensive. A lot of cabs cost more than my rig! BTW, it is extremely loud, clear, and punchy.

Looks like some 'Doom' parameters need to be set! I'll suggest a few.

Single & 2x10 speakered cabs have to paired with another cab. A 1x15 can be paired with another 1x15.
4x10's, 2x12's, 4x12's and 2x15's (& all things in between) are acceptable alone.
500+watts= Doom
Less than 500watts= Quasi-doom. Not quite doom enough!

Someone else will have to determine what is considered 'cheap'!

The cabs were so mint that my room smelled like the music store for a while. The Trace is loud as hell, and has a beautiful low end with a big high end snap. The moral of the story is that TB freakin' rocks when it comes to buying used gear.
