Compared to John's ..........mine's a simple "Fenderbird"
made from Epiphone and Eden parts....Plus an Allparts 3 point.
This shows a dent in the pick up cover that happened when it fell off its stand during a show
The new part is already in house tho............

I had a G&L neck bolted onto a Peavey T-20 body, with a G&L MFD single coil p/u together for a while.
I eventually put the G&L neck and pickup back on it's G&L body and sold it.
We affectionatly called that beast the P&L. It actually sounded, and played great, and I used it as a backup to my Fender for a little while. It also served as a workhorse for learning some stuff that was in an odd tuning with a band I use to play with.
Wish I had pics of that one.
A very usefull beast it was.

My POS splatterpainted bass. Body is from an old Aspen. Pickups are from Reverend (P) and Fender MIM (J), hardware is Shaller tuners and "Double Eagle" bridge. Neck is "Team" from Rondo Music. The neck is horrendous. Tone is fantastic thanks to the nice pickups.

SX short scale P neck & hardware, SX Tele Body, Dimarzio PJ pups, Ebay $20 Tele loaded control plate, finished with Tru Oil.

dreadheadbass, what make and model was that bass originally? I've always wanted an explorer-style bass. Great painting, by the way. I love the way that turned out!

It's a custom P body with EBO and Fender '62 reissue pickups, independently wired with their own output jacks, Hipshot tuners, and a MIM J neck, strung with Fender flats.
Probably cost me $400-$500 total, with pro assembly/setup.

In the late 60s I modified my Cherry Red 68 EB0 a bit. Added bridge pickup control knobs and 3 way switch . Changed out POS stock bridge for a BA I (bass finally intonated correctly). A little carving work done by Mike Chapman. Finally I changed out the Mudbucker for a DiMarzio Model I with in and out of phase switch. Added costs around $400 1970s dollars.
The results.
Someone gave me an old Vox 12 string acoustic electric with a waisted neck. Due to it being a 12 string the body was braced to the bone and a deep resonant tone when thumped. Why not resurrect it as a bass?. I found a used SX neck w/tuners, $40 shipped. I dremeled the old bridge out to accept a Jazz bass pickup. I grooved an old acoustic guitar bridge for the bass strings and bought a tail piece for $10 online. I made a Pickup mount/adjuster out of an old AOL tin. Wa La! The Voxder!
My latest endeavor is a project that was started by one of Talkbass's own, Folmeister. I got the slab swamp ash body already routed for a MM pu in the P position and Tele jazz neck from his a gift when I bought a speaker cabinet from him.
I searched the net for the most powerful MM pu because I prefer passive and most MM pickups are built to run with a preamp. Kent Armstrong MM pus are the bomb. So good that after I installed my first, I bought another to cheap to pass up. Wired with a 3 position switch, this is the most versatile P bass you can imagine. Costs involved so far, MM pu $58, Bridge 25, Tuners, pots, knobs, switches, input jack, neck plate, string tree another $100. I recently changed out the Tele rosewood neck for a Mighty Mite maple jazz neck and new tuners total around $120. Here it is pictured with both necks.

Yeah, I'm not a big fan of his (not that I dislike him or anything) but I understand that the original maker of the body was going for that.
