The cool thing was that Rob was able to more/less guess what I wanted before I had to do some photoshop work. I saw the first draft, which was ok, but figured out how to throw in an artistic arc to give it some attitude.

No Mouse should be without this extension or the hipshot d-tuner!!!

I took it to an audition and impressed everyone with the tones and killer looks. I need another one soon!!!

thanks to spade2you....my "Spade2You signature edition" mouse, extension + hipshot, is based on his idea. Between his mouse and the dual pickup MB2 he's pushed the edge on Rob Allen basses.

If i ever do another deep 5 (pondering a mag pickup version) im definitely doing the extension. But Rob mentions a mag pickup solidbody offering in the works. I cant wait.

I thought about doing that on a Deep 5, but if I get mags, I'm not sure if I'd really need the thumbrest. Maybe if I just got one mag. Heck, I dunno.

I'll either be ordering a Deep 5 with mags or that Mouse 305 later this year............

I'm very interested! Do you know any more? Will it be more or less an mb-2 shape?

As for the extension - I think it looks great, but I'm not sure I'd have a use for it :p I tend not to anchor on anything, and with my mb-2 I've never felt the need for anything like that. I would consider it though, just because it looks so cool.

Rob described the bass as "fender-like"....in the sense of a regular solidbody with an adjustable bridge (that he's created) and mags. Not much else.

I cant' wait.

I'm very glad Rob has been getting so much attention as of alte on the forums, I mean ever since I first visited the shop I knew there was something special going on. And to this day, nothing matched the sound of my mb2, rob's basses are jsut taht much fuller and mroe huge thatn every other bass out there.

It would be interesting if Rob's designs really caught on, but I suspect that he'll do alright with his loyal niche.

It's neat that he's always coming up with some interesting pieces of lumber. Just when you think you have seen his best piece, he hits ya with some new goodies.

That's for sure. I didn't even pay for a premium top, yet the walnut on my mb-2 is just crazy nice!

His wood (among other things) is one of the reasons I'm considering him for my next bass even though what I really want is that roundwound electric fretless tone. I'm thinking I might be able to get somewhere near it with a mag pickup + piezo and maybe different strings from the tapes.

All this in the Mouse 30-5 config - just imagine! I'm thinking... :help: :p

You gotta stand next to a microphone and hit the strings really really hard. Everyone loves my dual mag version because mine was the first to have sound! :p

These particular basses use a transducing piezo pickup in the bridge, under the white saddle that the string sits on. It senses the vibration based on the changes in pressure as opposed to the string interrupting the magnetic field of conventional magnetic pickups.

so my basses DO have a pickup? darn. I thought that was just an option.

I'll have to take pics of my fretless Deep 4 someday. It's one of the first Rob did (if not the first shipped). It may not even be the final electronics he's using now. He was still tinkering at the time.

The neck shape is a copy of my '78 P bass neck and the neck itself is specially reinforced. It's strung E - G, but uses the bottom four strings of a Rotosound RS88 5-string set (so it's 75-100-115-135).

could yours be the Deep 4 shown on the website? we'd love a photo.

regarding electronics, earlier Deep 4/5 basses had a pull-out midrange switch on the eq pot...no longer installed.
