I have Sunday morning Facebook Live services to prepare along with a Christmas Eve service to record Monday night, and so I brought my P bass to the office this morning to ostensibly practice later this afternoon. Maybe even this morning. The holiday mojo is sapping my capitalist resolve.

This little PJB combo is very clean but not at all sterile, so it makes practice pleasant when I hit the right notes, but it’s honest when I squeak, scratch, and fumble over foul ones. And it doubles as a perfect monitor through the aux out for Zoom conferences and playlists after my staff have gone home.

What little (or big) grotto of musical distraction do you keep handy when you want to be wooed from your honest labors? Best I can tell, this question last appeared in 2012, and all manner of wonderful gear has spawned since.

I think I fit this thread very well. This is my office/music room with my 30 bass ukes/mini bass guitars. On the left end is my Carvin MB15 Combo amp and matching 115MBE cabinet, above that on top of the cabinet is a bag containing my Phil Jones Bass Double Four, also out of view is a bag with my Blackstar Fly 3 Duo Bass amp. To the right of that is my workbench, a 13"x19" 8 color Canon printer (I'm also a photographer).

The screens on the right are my iPad Pro 12.9" that holds all my music sheets that I create on my new Mac Mini 2018 intel that is maxed out (3.2 GHz 6-Core Intel Core i7/64GB RAM/2TB PCIe internal drive and 8TB external Thunderbolt 3 RAID-0 array/3400 avg. R/W), which I also use to record and mix audio tracks and make videos. I used practice with the Carvin amp, then the PJD4, but recently got a 5.8Mhz wireless pod systen and mini mixer and now play through the computer, so much more convenient.

I like it a lot. But these things are quite fragile (this and the Vox Amplug seem like basically the same thing, with different controls.) I’ve had 3 of the Vox, got the Amazon protection plan with the last one; when the time came they were out of Vox but the Blackstar was eligible. I keep getting them cause I can’t really find anything that’s so simple and convenient.It’s basically like headphones coming straight out of your bass. They sound surprisingly decent too.

Comparing the Blackstar to the Vox; the Vox has 3 levels of gain control. Where the Blackstar calls theirs “Normal, Modern and OD” plus a separate gain control. So I feel like there’s more tone control on the Blackstar

nice! Nathan East preamp in the mix too. Very nice pre that does not get much attention these days.

I have two , one for each practice rig , just to sometimes fatten up the low end at low volume . Bought the second one about a year and a half ago , had a heck of a time finding one and then put a "looking for" ad in the local kijiji . Bingo !

Here's mine. The laptop on the right edge is my work computer. With this setup, I can roll my desk chair over a couple of feet and practice a bit whenever I want to. This is actually one of my main gigging rigs as well, a TC RH450 into a Schroeder Mini 12+L. We virtually always have FOH support, so this handles all my small to medium shows. I trade out the cab for my Bergantino AE410 for large shows.

As for that Schroeder, do you find it to be very mid-prominent? I briefly had a 15L Schroeder and it was a mixed bag for me. I usually keep my mids a touch above the other eq dials, but I couldn’t dial out the “bark” I got from it. Loved the weight, though.

I do find it fairly mid-prominent, but that's my preference, and one of the reasons I bought it - I play fretless pretty much exclusively, and like to push the mids. And the weight is amazing, of course.

I was cruising the web the other day and came across a gig/storage bag that hangs on the horizontal pole of a clothes closet. It got me thinking because I've been having more and more problems with nerve damage to my spinal cord from radiation treatments I had for cancer in 1973, which caused permanent atrophy to my neck and shoulder muscles, making it difficult for me to hold up my head and reach for my basses hanging up on the wall in my office/music room. I then looked for some kind of hangers for a closet and found a very compact and adjustable one. That prompted me to make a rack to hang my collection lower on the wall in a closet.

The wall is in two sections, 48" with room for 14 basses each. Since that many will be pretty heavy, I decided to use 1/2" galvanized pipe with floor flanges to secure the rack to the studs. Took me a bit of trial and error measuring each length of pipe that were custom cut and threaded at my local hardware store. Still have to get rid of more clothes and organize the stuff on the floor, but it came out great, very strong and secure, and the basses will more protected from the atmosphere as well. I can use all the empty wall space to hang my photography.
