Please say you are leaving that fingerboard unlined. Rob finds great mac ebony. The board on my MB-2 is similarly striking.

Yes, it will be unlined.

I have to wonder if Rob selects the nicer stock for unlined boards, saving the less figured ones (which are are still nice) for the lined ones. It certainly seems that way.

I asked Rob for a FB with some color contrast. I have this picture in my head with the contrast of dark binding and black hardware with the light maple top being pulled together with the fingerboard having both the lighter and darker tones. That may sound senseless but it makes sense in my crazy mind....

+1 That 'board is incredible! One of the nicest pieces of mac ebony I've ever seen. Congratulations.

My D4 has black hardware and such - not unlike yours, but mine is not a maple top.

New to me RA - fretted MB-2 from Brad. So far through a headphone amp at the office it sounds great. I'm ordering up a new fretted from Rob and this is just in time for me to do some experimenting. We're thinking of a 2-pickup mag 4-string, though the E-C strung 5-string and/or Mouse 5 is interesting to me as well.

Sometimes a very active looking fingerboard needs to be paired with a somewhat plain-ish body.

I bet that top will pop once it gets finish - looks like a ton of flame, especially down the middle.

I just got new LaBella tapes for my MB2-5. The old strings were on when I got the bass used and obviously had been on for a long time. When the new ones arrived I noticed the design has changed slightly at the ends.

When I put the new stirings on, the winding of the B does not reach the nut. The silk starts just before the string reaches the nut. I have about 2.5 turns around the tuner post.

I put the old B back on in the mean time.

Has anyone encountered this? Any suggestions?

Yes, it has to do with the bridge being at the end of the body combined with string-thru. I use Super Long strings, they work great.

I think the 760N's used on Robs basses are an "extra" long scale.This must be necessary to compensate for the through body stringing.He sells these on his site,I don't know if they are available elsewhere.
