I was floored when I plugged this in. I will gig it Fri/Sat so I hesitate to give much of a review but on first blush it is perhaps the best fretless I've owned/played. And I've owned/played a few...
I'm having a tough time putting it down and doing any work. It feels smaller than the Deep5 and is very alive. I do have the original (now 2 year old) strings on my D5 so I may put new ones on. It will be interesting to compare the 35" vs 34" scale wrt tone. I've migrated to all 34" these days with the D5 being the only outlier. I've got a Fodera Matt Garrison Standard on order that will be a 33" scale 5-string (E-C). I'm wondering what I should order next from Rob. Seems wrong to not have an instrument in the queue. My son can pay for his own college

Here's a quick and dirty clip. The first is the Deep 5 (with 2 year old string). The second is the Deep 4 (with new strings). I need to spend a bunch of time to find the nuances.

First, they both sound AMAZING. Second, they really each have a very distinct tone. Thanks for sharing this...
They both sound great! Sounds like the tonal difference is mostly due to new vs. old strings. Those tape wounds sound very snappy when they're new.
Yeah, I've got a set of new strings for the 5, I just have held off putting them on until I track this weekend in case I want a rounder sound.
The neck is 5-piece walnut/ebony. Fingerboard is an incredible piece of ebony. This thing plays *really* fast - effortless. And at 6.8 lbs, it'll be easy on the back.

I've attached a clip of the D4 I got last year (with both the piezo and mag) where I used only the mag pickup's output on a friend's rock track. One of the nice thing about separate, discrete outputs 
It was recorded using a mix of both DI and the D4's output to my '60s Ampeg B-18. The strings are Rotosound, not LaBella.

Not that the first one was a slouch by any stretch of the imagination. Everyone who has heard it really loves it - and I didn't get the same compliments about the original. It's pretty much been my main axe since receiving it.
And here she is. All I have to say is, "OMFG." I'll get some sound clips up later, but after a quick listen at the shop I don't know that I really want/need a "traditional" fretless. It flat out kills.

Kinda curious how some of you RA veterans feel about string longevity. When I got my Mouse my best guess was that it came with moderately "mature" strings. When I replaced them, I really didn't begin to like them until they had been on the bass 4 - 6 weeks. Now, after about a year, I'm beginning to think it's time to put on a fresh set as they are starting to sound a little dry and uneven. Anyway, just curious about other's preference for age of the LaBella tapewounds, I haven't tried other strings.
Here is a rough bounce from tracking today with the Deep 4. Plugged direct into a TH500 head, then DI out of that into a Saffire 40 interface. Some compression added after tracking. Still finding my way transitioning from the D5 with 35" scale (at least that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it)
