ScreaminBejesu, do you find the need to reduce the treble/mids to enhance the tone?

I'm currently playing it flat. But to be honest, it's still very new and I'm so preoccupied experimenting with just the instrument and my fingers that I haven't even thought about adjusting the EQ or any external effects yet.

Okay you happy Rob Allen owners, so what are you playing your Rob Allen through?
I have yet to take mine on a gig, but I have Genzler Magellan 800 w/Avatar 2X12 and a AER Amp Three.

I've always been happiest with Acoustic Image gear.

Coda combo with older contra ex speaker as needed. Or, I'll use the head with an epifani up-112 if I feel like I need that.

G.A.S. has me thinking I need something else,but I'm trying to fight it off until I've had the chance to gig with it a couple of times.

I am another Phil Jones user. At the time, it was about the only small amp that could produce the depth. I also have a large Ampeg rig that does well. Fortunately, there are a lot better small amp options these days in the Class D category.

I was looking at a couple of PJ's in the classifieds. I have a couple of Class D amps and the GK MB 800 Fusion with tubes, so it should warm up the Rob Allen nicely.

I'd imagine so. LOL, I wish they were more of a thing about 12 years ago. My Ampeg stack is entirely too damn heavy.

Right!! I sold my boat anchor Hartke HA3500 because it was too much to deal with! Yeah, these Class D heads are saving a lot of backs and makes living a bass player life easier.

I can't imagine a scenario where I would go from a 6 pound amp and 30 pound cab to anything else. Hell, I do all are DI/IEM gigs these days. I bring a Pedaltrain Nano, some Westone IEM's and a bass.

I was debating setting up a wireless rig for the new cover band (even though I basically stand by my drummer) and the thought of having even a 2 space rack for my receivers is disheartening.

I hear ya!!! I sold the 4X10 with the head. I only have 2X10 and 2X12 cabinets, with castors on the 2x12. I'm even thinking about this fEARful/Fearless 12/6/1 to even get a loader sound in a smaller/lighter cabinet. At this point in my life I need to be more in tune with how to get my body further down the road... if you get my drift.

Hi all - long time no see!

I finally have some clips of my Deep 4 that sound OK enough to share. The first two clips are using the piezo. The first is a solo during a tune (pardon any flubs - no overdubs!). The second is how it sounds in context behind a ballad. The third clip is using the mag pickup (not solo, just behind the band).

The amp I use is the "mighty" Phil Jones Bass Double Four - which is 2 x 4" Neo speakers, 70W, and weighs a whopping 4kg (8.8 lbs).

This was recorded by me in a decent room live to a Sony PCM-D50 at 96/24 using an Audio Technica AT8022 stereo mic.

EDIT: Right now the Deep 4 is strung using the Galli G77 strings.

Acoustic 270 with a Gallien Krueger cab and it sounds awesome - I think it sounds awesome no matter what you play it through.

I guess I'll soon find out what it sounds like through a fEARful 12/6/1 cabinet!

It not me playing, but in the comments he says it's a Roland Cube 100, though he normally uses Aguilar amplification.

Those old Roland Cube 100's were great amps. This is probably the video that sold me on a Mouse. If you aren't watching, you'd swear that's an upright bass. Amazing basses. Rob Allen has that tone nailed - on a 30" scale instrument! If I were doing steady "jazz combo" type gigs for money, I'd have a Mouse, no question.
