I had a fretless 4 string Mouse that I used for my jazz gigs a while back and it was amazing. Sounded more like an upright than a mic'ed upright. I know you are looking for fretted but maybe try a Mouse? I had an MB-2 4 and 5 string fretless as well and everyone I played with - myself included - preferred the Mouse.

Have any of you guys restrung? I still have the original strings on mine and have had them for many years. I have always heard that the strings get better over time. Just wondering how long is too long.

Every couple of years when I'm buying strings for my other basses I think "I should buy some LaBella 760Ns for the MB-2 so I have a spare set available."

I just noticed that I have three sets of spares, all new, unopened, and gathering dust in my closet! Meanwhile, the MB-2 is still sporting the original strings it shipped with new...nine years ago.

I loved the tone, and I also liked the small size. It's the only short scale I owned but it worked really well as you could move around easily - much more so than a traditional upright or even an EUB - so I was able to really work the entire range with ease.

I guess my impression of the Mouse 30 is that it's different enough compared to a Deep or MB2, even if they're all fretless.

If range is a concern, I think the Mouse 30 is available as a 5 string with a high c string. Would have loved this option if it were available when I ordered mine.

You are right, the mouse 5 is a option. Will consider this. Thank you.

The Mouse 5 with the high C is great! I had mine made last year and it got me through an international concert/clinic trip where I couldn't take a double bass. The beauty of the short scale was that I could simply carry it on to the plane and stow it in the overhead.

Wasn't an option when I ordered mine. I would have gladly considered that option if available. I'm a little too attached to my 4 string to sell/trade it.

I ended up changing the strings on my Mouse 30 to see what would happen. It took about 6 months to break in. Just a little regret during that time frame.

Here is my first Rob Allen, just arrived today!!!! Man, these Rob Allen's are sweet!!! And I thought my Roscoe fretless was the cat's meow!! This Rob Allen is the CAT!!!

All of my bass straps are 3 1/2 or 4 inches!! Way over kill for the Rob Allen!! Seems some string is all I need to strap this baby on!!

If you think an MB2 is light, an ash Mouse 30 will blow your mind. Mine was something like 5.5lbs or so if I remember correctly. Great sound and light as a feather.

Acoustic 270 with a Gallien Krueger cab and it sounds awesome - I think it sounds awesome no matter what you play it through.
