Show Us Your Rob Allen Basses Part IV

I am wondering if anyone can help me with a string question. I have just opened a set of La Bella 30" Mouse strings to put on a short scale bass (sorry, another maker - be gentle). The G, D and A are all shiny and black but the E is kind of a dark grey, matt and not quite as vibrant. Is this a usual thing? Ignore the B string!

That E string looks like someone sanded it, or hit it with coarse Scotchbrite. When you say it is not as vibrant, you're not referring to the tone, are you?

I've had La Bellas look like this (on previous basses I've owned), where one string is more dull and gray than the others. BUT, that looks to be a big difference on yours. Just looked at both my Rob Allens and neither set looks like that. How does it sound? Maybe contact the retailer?

Has anyone changed their Mouse fretless strings yet. I am wanted to change them, but based on my measurements the original strings are 33.75 from ball to silk.

But that is longer than the labella shorts and shorter than the Labella medium scale.

Help - anyone changed theirs yet.

thanks
