As long as we're bumping, these test results were flawed. The only measurements made was box resonance. They show reductions achieved though lining/stuffing, which were interpreted as giving the same result as using a larger cabinet. As I noted earlier in the thread a larger cabinet would both lower resonance and increase the speaker sensitivity. Stuffing/lining does not increase speaker sensitivity; it can even lower it. So while lining and stuffing does have undeniable benefits, making the cab seem larger and/or allowing the cab to be made smaller is not one of them.

Cool thread. I never even heard about the stuff in a speaker. I have a 76 peavey 215 with the center ports not the side ports. I "refurbished" it last year and have been playing the crap out of it and really like it but if I can make it better I will. It was a total budget build as I had a pair of new Madison Warriors that I picked up a couple years ago and I got the box for $40.00. There is a little insulation stapled to the back of each section. nothing else. The speakers are 8 ohm 250w madison warriors and I run a 200w Trace Elliot ah200 series 6 amp through it with a "P" bass of some sort through it. I love how it sounds but if it can sound better sign me up. Any suggestions? (Oh yeah I've been thinking of pulling the top 15 out and sealing the upper section and putting 2 16ohm madison warrior 10's that I have and making it a 1x15-2x10 4ohm cab) what do you think?
