Finally completed rebuilding my V4B cab, and here it is with my V4B head and a Squier Jazz. I like it. I like it a lot.

I thought I was the only B25B user on the whole site! great amp... I never understood why Ampeg setup the B25 and the SVT channels the same, but the V4 with only one channel

Edword, how did that VT-22 sound for bass? There's a part of me that is drawn to a tube combo amp for bass for some reason - even the '59 Fender Bassmans despite the fact that they apparently sound like butt for bass.

Also, it looks like 1969 was the only year they had those black plastic switches on the SVTs and B25Bs, even though they had metal switches on the B-15 series before and on the later SVT/B25/V4s - can anyone confirm or deny this with photos? Thanks again for posting all of these - they have a lot of character.

Sorry I took so long to answer, had to think it over some. The VT-22 only had to pull bass amp duty for about three weeks, until I got hold of a real bass head. In the meantime it did alright, considering the extra-pathetic speaker I put it through (I did NOT play it through the internal speakers).

could be 69, 70 or maybe even 71. only way to tell for sure is to pull the preamp and check the date code on the pots.

Or quicker still, check the codes on the bias pot's.
JimmyM you could check yours too, go on go for it, we're all busting to know, and I'm sure its really early.

Interesting, I have seen only a very few with the black switches, mine, a Dec 70, has grey painted switches, although I have seen unpainted/chrome ones on earlier amps .

yeah, GE6550A's are nice, and i expect them to last many years, but i think that winged C 6550's, Gold Lion KT88Genalex RI's and Shuguang KT100's sound just about as good (and cost ALOT less!) . if you use really good NOS tubes in the preamp and driver stages (like RCA, Sylvania, Amperex, Telefunken, Mullard, etc) to me, it makes a bigger difference than the output tubes.

here's a couple of pics of my VR (with the 610 and the 410 cabs). not a vintage amp, but IMO, a cool amp(eg) nonetheless. and it can really fill a room using both cabs.:

Just for reference my old blueline SVT has black rockers with pots/trannys dating to 72.

Has anyone seen a blonde svt and matching 810 with all gold hardware and wheat grill? I Am looking at one and was told it was euro export??

I actually have all of my stuff in my apartment today since we had to move out of our practice space . They're in fairly rough shape, grill on the 8x10 is messed up, B15 has been recovered and has a JBL speaker, and my B40 cab (not pictured) is pretty roughed up, but man do they sound good. The B15 is sitting on the cart for the B40, I haven't ordered a proper cart for it, not sure if I'm going to bother. Maybe when I get around to having it retolexed....
