Well, I don't know that that's 100% correct. When I first spoke to Dave back in 2002, he told me that he owns the company the builds the cabinets. I do realize he buys drivers from Eminence and Foster (for the bass cabinets) and has an outside firm build his input plates (which I learned when I questioned why the 1/4 in. jacks are no longer Switchcraft but some cheap Chinese parts).

He does own the Avatar name (and I suppose the cabinet designs that he develops with the help of folks at Eminence) and that's what I was getting at...build and sell Avatars (identical in every way possible) in Oz for equivalently bargain prices without having to ship completed cabinets there from Idaho.

1. Can you make a custom cab for me?
Sorry no, because we have our cabs made for us and our cab suppliers only do large production runs so the cabs are only available as they appear in the website. The cab suppliers won't do single items.

Some enterprising fellow in Australia could do the same thing. Find yourself a source for inexpensive but well made blanks, put some decent drivers in them and call em Aussie cabs or something. There's no magic to it. Dave's found a niche and he fills it very well and since Avatar doesn't ship to Australia that niche seems to still be open there.

That flip top was my first amp... that exact style of trim and fittings.

I hated the thing!!! In hind sight I'm kicking myself for selling it... it most likely needed a thorough servicing. I'm not an Ampeg fan by a long shot, but I wish I could go back and tell myself to hold onto it a little longer :)

Thank you guy's, James you might sympathize with this, It's funny all my 25 years of playing bass I used to own an all tube V4B in the early 80's and a 60's fliptop, I also had a Sunn collosium. I sold everything and tried PV, Eden. GK, Genz,SWR everything under the sunn, you name it, and here I am over 25 years later back to where I started, Old Ampegs and Sunns, I have one modern amp left a Eden WT400. Only cause it's a real sweet sounding head and it's light for gigging.
Man I could have saved allot of dough if I knew then what I know now. :cool: :)

Tis a lesson to learn from! I have been through some modern gear over the last two years. I like the stuff for sure but two weeks ago I bought an old ampeg V4B and have found the sound for me. Next and hopefully last on the gear list for me is an old SVT. :bassist:

Pointless if they do, Eden's and Aguilar 112 come in cheaper than that at RRP, street price would be closer to the $1k mark.

They do have a kinda ozzie version of avatars, there called classics arent they? used to sell them at venue music, small 2x10, 4x10 and 1x15 boxes loaded with celestians? i never liked them.. And besides you can always go proaudio.

here's one of my rigs:

I'm not that happy with it though. BBE pre/Crest pwr/trace 2x10 & 1x15. I blew one of the tens so I replaced them both with eminence until I get it reconed.
Lately I've just been using the 210 stack and am a little more pleased with the overall sound, but it bottoms out sometimes. With both cabs it's a little muddy no matter how I eq everything. May be the room/stage too.
