Not sure what his comment on the 15 you're referencing but he has said multiple times in threads that the J15 is too big to lug around. I told him that it plays so well that I want to build another to pair it with.
It makes you feel as, if one J15 is great?... Then two J15's would be pure bliss! He's not wrong though. Although it's not that heavy, its very large to shlep around and store.
I don't have much time on either of these cabs but I feel as if I know them both very well. Maybe it's from building them and studying their SPLs? I can't honestly say I'd ever play through a store bought cab again after playing though these.
I currently play in a three piece cover band. I play with a GK Legacy 800w head. Genre is mostly grunge that gets pretty loud with the drummer and guitar player.
J15 I built almost a year ago. The driver is a Delta Lite 2515 with 16 piezo tweeters using the BFM filters. On the rear panel near the speakon connecter I put a three way slider switch where the tweeters can be set to 100%, 50%, or off. I've rehearsed it maybe 4 or 5 times. It's simply an amazing cab to play through. This cab excels in its low end punch. It punches so hard it's amazing! It's very articulate, crisp and clear with plenty of midrange to cut through the band mix!
J210 Lite I finished about three weeks ago. It houses a pair of delta lite 2510's with BFM filter, no tweeter and weighs 41lbs on a bathroom scale. I've only rehearsed it once.
The response of this thing is insane! No tweeter needed. It dominated the mid range freqs. It does fall short on some low end but i guess that's expected from a 210. I had to turn it down because it was drowning out the guitar player
. How often does that happen? After band practice was over both the guitarist and drummer could not believe how much sound was coming out of that little cab. Both of these cabs excel and in opposite frequency directions. Makes me think that pairing them together would be a perfect match. I may try it, the GK is rated for an 8 and 4 ohm combo but BFM and almost everyone on TalkBass is against pairing mismatched cabs.
If you're on the fence about building do it! especially if you're a bass player. You won't regret it. I used lug around a huge Peavey boat anchor cab with a 1000w head and still couldn't hear myself. Now, all I need is that 210 and around 100w
.The question is, if you could build one more for a perfect pairing...
Which one would you build again, the J210 or J15?
But I guess it could make it too muddy/ boomy?!
