I love that bass. I bought it used ~ 1976 when no one cared for them.
It's road worn, weather checked, dinged and dented.
The neck is the perfect chunk: best Fender wide slab ever.

The DarkStar swap was super-simple. The stock 'bucker screwed to the pickguard.
So, I pulled that as a unit (and stashed it), got a replacement guard with the DS, and screwed it all together in about 20 minutes.

I reckon I'll go play it a bit now!

A little late to the party here...but 500K has just become a habit with me regardless of the tonal characteristics of the instrument.
It was original pot values on the Guild Starfires (hollow body) so it sort of became my mind-set. I seem to just adapt my attack, right hand placement and/or tone settings to whatever bass I happen to be playing.
I figured that access to more (or even excessive) highs was good.
The reasoning being that it's sort of like owning a gun. "It's better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it"

I've always been concerned (paranoid) that younger players were getting enough high end since they tend to associate that with a "modern sound"...whatever that is. I'm hoping that the trends are getting back to the "free-for-all-do-your-own-thing" vibe again instead of the "FLAVOR OF THE DAY" trend.

Both of my DSd Lakland solid bodys have 250K tone pots and seem to work just fine.

I'm reading these posts on the subject with interest.

OMG...I have tasted the Hammond Kool-Aid, and I am a believer!!! The DS is a big and beautiful beast. Maybe it was designed for the Starfire, but it sounds oh-so-right in a P bass - open, deep, and detailed. F---ing WOW!!! :)

Quick bit of info, since there are things that these photos just arent showing :(....

Flame Maple top, gold hardware, gibson headstock with "Cecilia" Paua abalone inlay, ebony fretboard, pearl gibson flower pot with rectangles inlay, bound body, neck and head.
