To all visitors of my thread - I have addressed the recent (now deleted) posts which negatively impacted the positive intent of our topic. The poster was requested to not respond further and I ask that we all refrain from comment or debate related continuation.

Thanks, and I continue to welcome all tb members who respect the subject of distressed finishes, and implore those who don't to please refrain from posting here. The mods are well aware of the pitfalls of the topic and will take disciplinary actions accordingly.

Yeah, I’m sorry about that. I have to say that I really like this forum better because it is so tightly regulated. So many other places are just black holes of childish negativity. I do love the aged and distressed finishes... at least they’ve actually been played.

Personally I really love this thread and don’t miss a post. Basses (and other instruments) that've had the snot played out of them and are still going strong are frickin’ cool things to behold (funny how that doesn’t seem to work for cars tho’)
I’m not as much of a fan of mass produced “relics” that all have the same wear marks in the same spots. They are not my thing per se, but I do like and appreciate a very well done Custom Shop, artistically done and cosmetically faithful to a historic piece of gear. I owned one and I loved it.
Sometimes you just gotta “dress” right for the gig. And typically, they feel great in the hands.
I wouldn’t trade any one of the dings in my ‘73 P for anything.

Very nice example - thanks for posting. Spitfire? Was the bass missing the pg when you got it? I'd post a pic of my Sf pg but the bass it's on isn't distressed! :D

The previous owner (a local fellow TB’er) put it on. I never did get the story about the original. Strung with TI flats. Just awesome tone to it.

Yes, thanks for that. It is a positive thread - I think of it as part fun to look at and part an inspiring visual record of use, sort of like a resource library. Or at least that's a big part of why I started it. I've been a long time appreciator of time/weather/use worn many things, from a old fence to an antique. I open my eyes wide to witness the organic nature of degradation - to see another of Mother Natures (or deity of your choice) canvas's. (delivered as anti-order, serindipity of articulation)

My hope with this thread is that it can inspire curious eyes to discover the beauty of these iconic instruments worn finishes.

Beauty - I heard one played at a local club and it sounded great! I'm also a big fan of 60's era basses/guitars. I recently got this '68 Custom Kraft "Bone Buzzer" hollowbody and love it! Here the minimal "distressing" it has encountered over 50 yrs - (not much!) I could easily touch it up so you'd never see the nicks - but they are part of the basses history. A played bass will get hs nicks. :bassist:

Wow this brought memories of my new $145 Eko that I bought from San Francisco Pawn on Hastings Street in Vancouver around 1971. I was 16. Mine was kind of a copy of the Gibson Eb2 with a semi acoustic body, same colour and white pickups.
