I was lucky enough to score a '76 Ampeg B-15N years ago for a decent but not obscene price and everything I own sounds like gold through it. But.., having said that, I briefly owned a Ashdown 550 Spyder which sounded really nice through my Eden 2x10 cab. Unfortunately it failed, and on stage so I sorta' have avoided buying another... maybe it was a fluke, but hitting WCS like that left a bad taste in my mouth for Ashdown.
I saw this post from earlier this year and can update: got the Ashdown repaired after way too long and absolutely love it! Big Ashdown fan - I loved the tone from the start, but it failing so quickly was't very welcomed. I can hope that it was a fluke - and will enjoy it fully!
Here it is atop my '76 B-15 cab with upgraded late 60's JBL speaker - killer combo/stand-in for it's (killer sounding) 30watt tube head! The vintage "Heathkit" badge is an add-on. My 1st bass amp was a Heathkit.
