I saw this post from earlier this year and can update: got the Ashdown repaired after way too long and absolutely love it! Big Ashdown fan - I loved the tone from the start, but it failing so quickly was't very welcomed. I can hope that it was a fluke - and will enjoy it fully!

Here it is atop my '76 B-15 cab with upgraded late 60's JBL speaker - killer combo/stand-in for it's (killer sounding) 30watt tube head! The vintage "Heathkit" badge is an add-on. My 1st bass amp was a Heathkit.

That sounds cool. I used to spray slot when I had my old house. Had a booth in the garage but now my guns and compressor languish in my son in law's basement. But I always remember putting them back together how each new piece made it look better and better and just staring at it as I went LOL...I am excited to see yours.

The key to artificial 'relic-ing' is to approximate a real player-worn finish. This is the main reason I started this thread - to create a library of player-worn finishes. Most of what gets posted is Fenders from the 60's, which is understandable for a number of reasons. Thin nitro finishes, much played instruments (as Fenders ultimately were- especially basses), and an acceptance of the look because it showed that it was played - and it felt good not to fuss about it. (a professional tool) If you don't see a version of what you are 'effecting' within the 2,656 posts/133 pages here, it probably needs a survey from page 1 on.

Fully agree

I looked at where and how I play the bass, carry it etc, and this wear is specific to what I think I would do

I don't think I have ever thanked you for starting this thread. I use this thread for exactly what you stated. It is a library for studying this type of finish (Relic'd/Distressed). I keep a personal file as well.
