This is my 68. It doesn't have much wear on it, but the nitro finish is fading nice over time so that the wood grain comes through. There is a nicely worn in 500/1 on Reverb right now. I'm just not sure how to capture the photos to display them here.

'68 and '62 (modified) P's / '68 was when Fender started using poly. By the was the finish is flaking off, it obviously didn't make an improvement. Most likely why they were coated so thickly as the 70's evolved.

That's a great find! It looks really inviting and warm. I know it may seem silly, but what I really like is that truss rod isn't buried deep in the body making that tiny occasional tweak easy because I'm picky action wise like that. OCD is my cross to drag. Enjoy that cool bass!

I've been demoing new songs on GarageBand with it the last couple of weeks and it's got the classic fat sound, and so easy to play with the slim B neck. And I just can't resist an 8 pounder. A previous owner went the hack on it in 1985 and chopped a hole through the back of it where the pots are to fit a battery for some damn EMG's so there's that to fill when I have some spare time - part of the reason I got it a bit cheap. Just need to keep reminding myself not to plug in and play it whilst nude, or things could get a little er, shocking!
But yes, the trussrod looks like it's never had a screwdriver on it, the guys in the shop I bought it from did a reasonable setup on it and all I did was tweak the intonation. It is flawless all the way up the neck, not a buzz anywhere. And as far as the finish goes, to me it looks like they were still using nitro for the bursts but the clearcoat is poly - it's pretty heavily checked all over the body, and the colors have held so well for a 72.

How old is that picture of the black P from Dave’s? I couldn’t find it on their site?
I don't remember when I found that. Couple of weeks?!? It's been sitting in my tablet a while. If I recall it was a CS and was new? Sorry I can't help more.

Early '66 Charcoal Frost J on Reverb. Interesting how is doesn't have the block & bound neck & pops as all other early '66 J's have. But... check out the neck heal (last pic)- routed for binding! There's a story there.
