This is not the copper colored CAR bass I mentioned earlier but it's a good example of how the color can age.

That last motorcycle I had was a 69 Triumph TR6R Tiger twin that I restored and was originally CAR and had turned the color of an old penny except under the seat you could see on the fender where it was a beautiful red. A lot like under that pickguard. What fun that was. Beautiful bass there.

Thanks. I have a few more for you. These are not nearly as interesting in terms of wear because they are some of the most clean examples I've seen lately. Still high art to me. I'll kick it off with a 1965 Dakota Red jazz bass.
Next up is a 1965 Precision in Burgundy Mist. This thing is stunning. The original owner was going to refinish the bass when a friend saw what he was doing stopped him, so the story goes from Well Strung Guitars.
Lastly, in one of my all time favorite colors. A 1965 Fiesta Red Precision.

How can you tell if it’s new or old? Serial number,pickups?
Or do you have to take the bass apart?
I’ve got a 1963 Fender Jazz Bass.
Body is natural, but must have been white because the headstock is.
Repair guy took the neck off and said the date is on the end of the neck.
You guys like these because they’re kind of beat up?

The thread is for distressed finishes, so either relic or original wear is a go. That being said there is a preference for original worn finishes but both are welcome.
Cool bass. Did you acquire it without the finish?

Yes, the people who congregate here have an appreciation for the way a player-worn/road-warrior/surviver of years of duty instrument looks. Your bass checks a sufficient number of boxes.
If I do they are polaroids lol and I restored it in silver so I don't have pics in the faded red but I'll look around. Probably have a few of my then wife's BSA Victor Special too I did for her. It was her dad's when she was little.
Those are all a solid 10 on my scientific oo-la-la meter! I'm into the red stuff.
Same here. That Dakota jazz has got it going on.
Nice! I used to have a BMW R60/6. It was a beater bike but worked well in SF/Oakland. Had a great patina and road worn look in its stock blue. Unfortunately I have almost zero photos during that time in my life.

Not at all distressed and only a little 'road-worn'... but here's my 'motorized' bike - '05 VFR 800 Interceptor
Nice and she looks well kept. This is not mine but is a 1976 R60/6. Much cleaner than what my bike looked.

Both nice! I miss bikes, don't miss getting hit by cars...twice totalled by drivers that didn't see a 6'2" human on 800 lbs of metal. Oh well, I'll stick to mountain bikes. If I hit a tree, well that's on me.
