man alive this thing has seen some things!
It definitely has some stories to tell![]()
That red bass is cool and looks well done.I'm only disclosing this to illustrate and celebrate a skilled artisans hand/eyes compared to "dragging it behind the pick-up" (I hate that summery...) It is a bass (red P) currently on eBay from China, (if interested - no affiliation - Heavy Relic Electric Bass Guitar Aged Hardware Nitro Finish Vintage Neck | eBay) and it has been artificially distressed. So, it has a story - a story about a skilled artisan who created a very convincing image/illusion of a very player-worn bass - a "look" that appeals to (certain) people. Needless to say, if it were a real ('60s) heavily player worn P-bass* - they would not be offering it for the BIN price listed, a very affordable cost for a very cool looking bass.
*like this '64 P - listed for $20k...

I don't want to instigate posing examples like this - as we all know there are too many and I think we would rather see the opposite. Just that every now & then I see something like this and it further confirms the skill and discerning eye of a finisher who creates a convincing 'relic' effect/look. Oh dear….How NOT to do distressing/relic'ing...I don't want to instigate posing examples like this - as we all know there are too many and I think we would rather see the opposite. 62 fretless EB "P" -- all the mods by previous owners (well I did ad the Duncan mudbucker it was just not ther at all when I got it)
beat -- finish checked... cracked headstock was repaired (we think) sometime in the late 70s........

I’m looking at this bass for sale not far from me and I’m a bit concerned with the long cracks in the finish that go with the wood grain. To me, it doesn’t look very good but I trust you guys’ opinions on this stuff so if anyone has an opinion on the potential problems here, please opine on this ‘69.

Thanks.
To me, it looks worse than simple finish checking.
