Granted this is a 6-stringer, not a bass... but as far as a 'distressed' finish's go - I love how 95% of the original finish is gone and only the smallest hints of what it was remain on this '50s Gibson. (from Reverb)

My immediate thought is TV yellow, however, that bit of green is common with the gold tops.

Debatable if "real" player wear... but, I did see a P-bass at a guitar show years ago and the back looked like it was attacked by a badger! (more like a honkin' cowboy belt-buckle!) I didn't have a camera with me - it was extreme!

It very well could be fake wear, though I have seen a few basses like this from the 60’s. Guy Pratt’s burgundy mist jazz comes to mind. I suspect the red bass is from the 80’s and due to the different areas of wear, had several owners who played hard on different areas of the bass.

This space was at my local mom and pop shop in Houston. The owner of the shop said that 2 really old gray haired guys came in and sold it to him. He specified a no return policy because the base had quote a funny smell to it unquote. Not exactly sure what he paid for it.. this bass........

It is a bit of a freak of nature, isn’t it? I wonder if they reached their tonal goals with the extra pickups?

Indeed it would. I'm not opposed to customizing a bass to taste. After all, Whoever's bass it is, they're playing it, and they should be satisfied with it.
