Yes, any lacquer blue will amber over time resulting in a green hue/patina. The pale blue showing through on that bass looks lighter than LPB - more like Daphne blue.

'73 P - '70s poly finishes degrade differently than '60s lacquer - it's a thicker finish & chunks fall off clean. The top-coat/colour didn't bond sufficiently with the clear-coat over natural. Note there's no (usually white) primer-coat. Also note dark aged clear on the hs, which as far as I've read was still lacquer then.

This is not entirely true. And since you're using caps lock to stress your message, I'll bite.

- CBS acquired Fender on January 5th 1965, not in July as you wrote.
- Same factory is true.
- Same parts: not entirely true. They started using different pick ups (partly late 64 grey bottoms appeared instead of black bottoms), different caps (yellow instead of orange) and they stopped using Brazilian rosewood gradually. Also, to keep up with the demand for instruments, the wood didn't get as much time to rest before it got used. These changes influence the sound and the feel.
- Same workers: maybe, but they hired a lot more workers to keep up with the numbers CBS wanted to get on the streets. So not everybody was as experienced. And the numbers of instruments they had to make daily increased: this means less time and less attention to the product.

Conclusion: you can have a black bottom, Brazilian rw Precision from 1966. It happens. But starting in 65 you'll see lots of Indian RW and paduk fretboards on basses. So overall, the basses changed after the takeover. You only need to know where to look to spot the differences. Needless to say: you can have a great 66 P but it's not EXACTLY the same as a pre CBS P.

Amber'd Pelham blue '64 T-bird II - being a '64 II owner myself, it's nice to see some vintage Gibson here for a change...

This would be a fairly rare colour for '64 - most were brown-burst and some were one of these other choices.

Update: it's a re-fin/relic-job... and not an especially good one.

Part of the reason we don’t see more variety in brands is due to the dominance of Fender in the market. There are fewer examples of aged Gibson basses, among other brands. I side stepped the topic a few times here and posted some examples of aged gold top Les Paul’s just because they were available and nice examples of the aged surface that’s so appealing.

It’s always a pleasure to see a variety of other brands like Gibson simply because they are so few and difficult to find.
