I'm assuming it's a refin as I've never seen a Mustang of that era in Foam Green. Looks great regardless.
It is indeed a refin that is for sale in Germany on eBay Kleinanzeigen (no affiliation).

As far as I know, this 1953 originated from California because it was being sold at the Guitar Center in Hollywood. This bass sat there for 5 years, no buyers! (Until me.) So, I'm assuming that Leo turbans were a So Cal band. I was thinking perhaps a Chicano kind of a band.
Anyway, my son and I couldn't find any exact info on Leo turbans or the '53 P Bass.
I'd love to know the history of my 1953. Guess, I'll never know.

Ha ha ha, my birth date bass would be 8-51 and there are no Fenders. I was born a few months before the first P Bass.
Side note, my sister was born in Jan. 1953.

You’re welcome. The Turbans was a band I had known about. I was kind of hoping you had bought the bass in Philly, home of The Turbans. If your bass was affiliated to this band, the name might be something other than Leo. We may never know.

When I got my '66 P 10yrs ago I attempted to track down info on it as it obviously had been 'well played'. I uncovered a certain amount of information but then hit a dead-end. A professional player in Portland who played live and recorded there, most likely bought the bass new in '66. It was initially brought in to a Portland guitar store by the players' (who passed away) family, ended up in Seattle at Mike & Mikes and then at Real Guitars here in SF (vintage shop 'horse-trading') where I saw & bought it. The original bridge had been replaced a couple times (found pics on-line) but I was able to find a '60s Fender bent-plate/threaded saddle bridge and a '66 HSC so it's fully era-specific now.
