This 1980 Fender Jazz Bass has been in my stable for two years now, I'm the third owner, the second owner inherited it from his late father who bought it new in the early 1980s. Most of the finish damage was done by the first owner. No structural issues though and it is 100% stock, no mods.

I love this thread! But since the TB update I don't get notifications for this and several other "watched" threads...such a drag! Is anyone else here experiencing this?

Do you have the threads "watch" tab engaged? I haven't had any issues and like you am a supporting member.

I was wondering if it was an old refin. I know Fender was not shooting lacquer in '78, but the thin layer and how it has flashed(?) crackled, almost looks like it.
Hard to say but I was also thinking it could be an old re-fin. But thin lacquer wouldn't look like that unless it was shot very heavy.
