I didn't notice that - that is strange. It's also odd how they shrink in size from E to G. They line-up with the strings but...?

If I'm not careful while stringing, pulling them through the bridge will scuff the paint. Just a thought.

The wear you describe has appeared on a number of these basses - but those four wear marks are too even and delineated.

Hah! That reminds me of a funny story. I bought an '86 Kubicki Ex-Factor in '94. It was black with player wear including a deep fingernail divot near the E string. I sent it to him to install a fretless neck on it and after he received it he called wanting to know if I wanted the wear touched-up. I said I kinda' liked the wear and he replied; "...if they only would have trimmed their fingernails" (!) I spoke with him a few times on the phone, he was always generous with his time - wish I could have met him in person.
