Borrowed from @BassAgent recent post at Music Man StingRay Club | PART FIVE

I've got a bit of a Dutch icon in my house at the moment: the old Stingray from 1977 of Rudy Englebert. Rudy was the bass player for Vitesse and Herman Brood (for Dutch music connaisseurs) and passed away last year. His bass is being borrowed to bass players around the Netherlands to play gigs on, to let Rudy's heritage live on and to make sure the bass is still being played on. It's amazing to see, feel (and smell) all the history this bass has been through.

So many things wrong with that picture. First, the overlord (owner of the company) was told people like "distressed"/"relic'd" guitars enough to buy them. Then, they might have shown the worker-slave a small pic to imitate. The worker-slave not knowing anything about anything related to their task - just starts hacking away. They are probably confused because they were given a new unblemished guitar and told to abuse it. When the overlord said "good enough - keep doing it to the ones that follow" - they were still perplexed but were getting paid 20cents an hour - so just do it. And at the end of that nonsense - it's posted on eBay presuming someone will buy it. Talk about adding insult to injury... oh.., and then when no-one buys them they are thrown in the scrap-pile to further pollute the world. A total "lose-lose" scenario.

Seriously, I wonder what could cause that kind of very rough wear. If the user had a ton of chains dangling off his/her arm, they would have scratched the arm just as badly. No?

Not being the owner or knowing the providence of the bass, it’s hard to say. It wouldn’t surprise me if it went several years without a case. However, that’s pure speculation.
