I had 3 Sandberg basses and unfortunately had to sell one but all 3 are superb instruments. The build on mine were exceptional and IMO the relicing is very good. Mine looks better than in the photos. Now, I'm generally not a bass player but I would like to think I know what a good instrument is as I have several very good guitars, but I have a bass playing mate who has recently worked with UJR and said my relic bass was one of the best basses he's ever played.

Edit. Regardless of manufacturer I would still prefer to try any instrument out if at all possible. I wouldn't worry too much if you can buy from somewhere that offers a 14 - 30 day return guarantee.

They're microtuners - I never used them - seems to me TWO sets of tuners - especially with one set of tuners being just screws with no gearing system or anything else to keep them in place and right where you can knock them with your playing hands was less stable than one set - though naturally you can get more precise tuning if you use the screws once the machines stop being helpful. Anyway - I just took them out (like I said they're just screws with finger adjustment heads and cut them down so I could back them all the way down without them having any affect on the strings. The other problem with them was, if you didn't have them acting on the string they stuck out a LOT, so I felt it was a bad design - and I'm guessing most people did, cause you didn't see a lot of bridges with tuners after these, but it was the height of Floyd Rose and Headless and all that and the more elaborate your hardware the batter was the philosophy at the time.

I actually wish I'd bought a few of these at the time - I got it for like $40 - because I find most heavy bridges to be kind of ugly and the ones I like are REALLY expensive. Not that these are all that BBEAUTIFUL, they're just not (again to my eye) as ugly as the rest - they have a bit of visual design instead of just being examples of industrial problem solving.
