This is a Mex I "aged" to try to make it look like a 1962 version. Some of you know the story of how I "naturally" tarnished the hardware.

I mention this on every relic thread see of someone can point me to it. A tber did a relic job. Painted the bass red then white over the red and then reliced it. It was a pj and it was the coolest looking bass I've ever seen. Anyone else remember this, have a picture, etc??

I know the one you are talking about, but don't have a picture. I believe it was based on Scott Devine's CS P bass:

Some of the wear spots on my Nate Mendel Precision. I like the subtle relic job on this bass, it looks like it's had some use, cared for, but not abused.

Not to be a nitpicker, but a '51 would be a slab body in blonde, only. Sunburst on the contoured body models, like yours, became available in late '54.

I'm an MJT fan, have any pix of the back? Wondering what type ferrules were used. Is there a wiring route under the guard?

What kind of neck and pickup did you use?

Again, super cool bass?

Hey maybe the strong sunlight in that pic makes it look a little red in the middle but it certainly is 2 tone burst.

I dont like this particular relic job but if you like then does not matter what we people think, enjoy it and get all your frustrations out on it, it will get real road worn very soon.

I have a Fender classic lacquer that I would love to cause some checking to it, I just dont know how.

You're im Michigan - leave it out in the garage (or shed for a couple of days in the cold part of winter, then bring it straight in to the house.
Don't use a case, make sure you remove the strings first.

I did this to a RW and nothing happened, I even use a hair dryer and heated the body after being three days in tne garage where the tenperature was around 15F, not a single crack, I hope thos time works

What kind of bridge is that on your bass...is that a Fender logo? Never seen one like that.

I'll assume you're talking to me, and YES it's a Fender logo.
It's the bridge from the elite and, later plus series basses.
We owned a music store in the early 90s and so I could parts and it was to my eye the most attractive heavy bridge around (and I could get it cheap), so I got one and put it on.

I've got to get me one of those. The only issue I have with relicing is sometimes the forearm wear on the top can look too smooth and sanded to be real. Those sandbergs are masterpieces of art right down to the cigarette burn.

I received it in a trade, so it wasn't my build, but the Neck is an Allparts 1.75" Telebass style neck. Pickup is SD Custom Shop P Stack. There is no wiring route so it can be used without the pg. ferrules look like the standard ferrules I've seen on many other string thrubody basses....
