Show Your Fake Relic Basses

One would have to be 90 years old and gig seven nights a week to cause that much wear on a bass. All I've ever been able to do over the years is cause a ding or light scratch. Of course there was that time in the 80's when I managed to snap off the headstock on a Les Paul.

OP, nice bass. I've never intentionally reliced a bass, but I understand the appeal, and would not be above buying a reliced bass in the future. Plus, it looks like you were able to give your buddy a chance to practice his interest, while also making an investment in your own basses. This one is newly refinished, and you've added some insurance for your more expensive instruments.

Yep, it was referred to this way when I was attending Belmont at the turn of the century.

I really can't believe that someone would suggest that only approval and agreement are allowed here.
I had no idea that was one of the rules and really cannot be a part of something with a rule like that.

Ibanezcollector here on TB does a great job. I saw some of his work a few years ago.

Might as well add mine. Squier by Fender Vintage Modified Jazz with the Fender Dual Concentric controls added on. All chrome dulled w/ muriatic acid vapor (Kids, don't try this at home).
Added a bit of artificial player's wear, but not too much. Turned out pretty decent. Tweed case gives it that comfy look.

I have a friend that does it for a hobby so I asked him to relic this Squire Affinity Jazz bass for me.

1. Affinity Jazz body
2. E Bay neck and tuners
3. Fake decal
3. Aged bridge and tuners
4. Fender 62 neck pup
5. Symore Duncan Vintage Jazz bridge pup
6. LaBella flats

All she needs is to go to my tech for wiring and setup and she will be ready to rock

The best, most realistic-looking relic jobs I've seen have come from the FCS. None of the basses pictured are mine unfortunately.

My 62 Jazz. Body refinished in nitro shoreline gold by Dan at Danocaster. The only refin jobs he takes are preCBS Fenders. His relic job is the best I've ever seen.

What others do to their gear and their instruments is none of my business. More power to them. I may suggest or wonder, but I don't judge. I personally won't own a "reliced" bass for 3 reasons:
(1) I would know the truth.
(2) I won't lie to my friends.
(3) I would never hear the end of it if I did.
