The one in the middle is my Brice Pieces SCPB with a SD Antiquities II pickup. I deglossed the whole thing and distressed the hardware.
That is HOT. I love pink basses and the relic is very cool.

I've heard it referred to as "NashVegas" for many years! Still a nice place. Was up there just last week! Wanted to go by Corner Music but didn't have time unfortunately.

A relic thread with a rage quit! This is better than expected. And for the record, I have nothing bad or snarky to say about relic finishes, but there are some really unconvincing relic jobs going on in this thread.
These are pretty much the opposite of each other RE:"relic". Both parts basses I "built".
This is a Road Worn Mike Dirnt body, with all new, non-distressed parts. Cabronita neck, vintage style "reverse" tuning machines, vintage style bridge, all shiny new. This is my #1 even though I have several significantly more expensive basses. Pickups, by the way, are the same pre '08 American Series used in the standard Road Worn precisions (I don't know what the factory Dirnts use).
This a shiny new body, American Vintage '57, with a Fender Precision Road Worn neck and a mix of Fender reliced Road Worn parts: pickguard, pickups (pre 08, as above, but aged); and Fender parts aged by Madison's music:bridge, machines, knobs. This was a sweet bass, but gas got me and it is long gone.
Don't try to find intentional logic here. These basses were built a couple years apart, just for the hell of it. The fun is in the planning, searching for deals on parts and the assembly.
Spread the cost out, buying parts over several months, also.

My 62 Jazz. Body refinished in nitro shoreline gold by Dan at Danocaster. The only refin jobs he takes are preCBS Fenders. His relic job is the best I've ever seen.
I've got a '79 Ibanez Roadstar that might be a good candidate to relic. It was the first bass I bought via eBay (like 10+ years ago) and it arrived with a chunk missing from the shipping box and a damaged section of the bass on the right-lower body. The bass is factory black, which has aged nicely and is showing just a hint of crackliness. The damaged section of the body reveals some sort of binding around the edge. Old catalogs say the body wood is either ash or mahogany. It could be plywood for all I know. I want to do a decent job of relic-ing this thing. It's a great player. The pickup is fantastic and the neck is flawless. I want to avoid the "went crazy with a belt sander" look. I'm thinking hand sanding & filing, adding a few select gouges, maybe using a bit of paint thinner in spots ... ? Any advice for the uninitiated?

i had a jazz in the 80s that was not quite this worn, but close. i put duct tape around the upper horn to complete the look.
One constant it seems among internet forums is that when someone stomps away in anger and says that they are finished and that you have read their very last post, you almost certainly haven't.
here's a nice bit of wear on my '09 AV62RI. i bought it new for "watching the news" noodling. the plastic chair arm is awesome for the initial nitro stripping.
