You are right, of course. But there was just a bunch of negative comments about a bass the OP was happy with and about something he can't undo, so it only served to make him feel bad.
I have no problem offering opinions (I've got LOTS) but it should be done as you said (yours was worded respectfully and at least offered CONSTRUCTIVE advice rather than the pile of "BAD JOBB DUDE" ones which added nothing to the discussion. What I'm saying is, if yours was the only "negative" opinion I wouldn't have said anything, because it was respectful (as you say) and a counter-point is useful. But no one needed 10 comments in a row telling the guy his bass looked like crap. And, in reality, while it's a little over-done, it's a LOT better than ones I've seen by people who claim to do it "professionally" and on-stage, under lights it'll look pretty awesome.

This ain't "America", it's TalkBASS. It is an organization you belong to by choice, and by maintaining your membership you agree to its rules.
As far as saying you don't like something, you have the RIGHT. But that does not make it RIGHT, nor necessary, nor productive/helpful.
Are you actually going to QUIT because you can't insult other people's instruments?

Freedom of Speech on applies to the government's restrictions on censorship. Private forums can do what they want.

It's okay to say you don't like them, and why, but it quickly starts getting into bashing owners, not that you were, of course:

I, personally, have no problem with a civil discourse, but, these threads eventually break down into less than civil posts about the players (poser is a common term). It's cool that you don't care for them, and you certainly have been civil. I have just been a part of so many of these that turn bitter, quickly. :)

In over a decade here, I don't think anyone can point to one thread where I was "bashing" or failing to show respect...

Some good natured give and take - of course.

Yep, I'm 42 so I agree. With the poly finish on my bass I doubt I will see any wear. I do have some serious gas for a 64 avri relic though.

I dont like this particular relic job but if you like then does not matter what we people think, enjoy it and get all your frustrations out on it, it will get real road worn very soon.

I have a Fender classic lacquer that I would love to cause some checking to it, I just dont know how.

Just to add something to the thread. My Cincity Customs "Pino" Precision with Fender "Original Precision" 62 reissue pickup (which I HIGHLY recommend) and '09 Fender Road Worn 60's Jazz. The RW Jazz is, of course, relic'd at the factory. The Cincity Pino Precision is very lightly relic'd with the gloss finish knocked down to a more used appearance. I also stripped the finish from the back of the neck.
