well sure, it's almost 30 years old.
L1000's rawk; here's my 1980:

I used three grades of meguire's automotive products on it. it was gunked over when i got it, and had been sitting in the case for some many years, unused.
you can see where the strap "sank into the finish" on the upper right horn.

i started with swirl remover, and was pretty sure i'd killed the finish with the first application. it went all hazy and gunky, but apparently, that was years of sweat and bar smoke coming out. a couple more applications of that, then moved to fine cut cleaner, then show car shine.

i could probably get it looking better, but what i did took several hours and i like to play it some too;)

Hey Chef, It looks like you have crazy low action on this one. The pickup looks like it's really close to the strings, as well (maybe it's the angle giving that impression?).

When I put the pickup closer, I found that playing farther up the neck was giving me odd overtones--especially on the E and A strings. I lowered the pickup to get rid of the problem. The magnets are really strong on my pickup. You don't have that issue?

A side note: I have fallen in love with my mahogany/ebony L-1000. :)

snappytom, those are some nice basses! I'll bet they all sound great.

I'm from Quebec city and it's great summer festival :
10 day of great shows (Les Claypool, Kiss, Sting, Van Der Graaf Generator, Jeff Beck and much more) for 35$ !!! (Wonderful band from Mtl too, Beast, Patrick Watson, Plants and Animals...)

But I admit I never went to the Mtl Jazz festival :rollno:

Really? There's not more? hmmmm...

At any rate, those early SB1's are quite the bass, I think.
"The best '51 Precision Reissue" going, by my estimation:
