Just picked up one today... I've heard tales that Pan was a one off brand of Aria back in the early days of Matsumoku. I honestly have no idea and there is no serial number on the bass. I'll take off the neck fairly soon... Probably Tuesday night after I play it through my good rig and see if there's a manufacture date. I'm thinking late 60s to early 70s. Anyway, the bass I picked up is broken by the input jack, but plays awesomely and sounds pretty cool from what I've heard so far. Hoping to fix the body and do a refin... I dig it.

That break is heinous though... You can't really see from the picture but it's offset by at least 1/8". I'm not sure I can fill/glue that back without stripping the finish. Ideas? I'm open for sure. I'd rather not do a full refin because it'd have to be black . ha.

I'm still super jealous, though from your post it seems the reissue ones are better. Short scale would be interesting...

I love my SBV-500. The neck pickup especially is huge and quite P-like. Here's mine:

It`s a beauty mark :) Offset, as in pushed in? Take the PG off and push it out even from the cavity side. Fill the crack and match it as close as possible with some stain. Very nice Yamaha, Achtane !

The Talbo is real aluminium not a paint job. They're hollow and filled with foam to keep the weight down but it does have a tendency to feedback if you play loud with high-gain sounds. This one is one of the 2000 re-issues. Still looking for an original late 80s Talbo bass.

Here's another Tele-Star...a 24" scale "short neck" bass (shown next to my 64 P for reference). I also have the single pup version of this bass as well as Tele-Star Pbass and Jazz knockoffs from the same era. I'll try to get some pics of the rest of the herd one of these days but in the mean time, they're pretty much as shown in the old Tele-Star ad below.
