It never made sense to me to put the louder pickup near the bridge.

I notice anyhow that Hot pup close to the bridge is the rule for guitars because it gives a balanced ouput.

This is due to the string movement amplified as you get further to the bridge, the power output grows along this string movement amplitude.

I just remove my J bridge from my Squier Precision PJ because of the weak unbalanced tone I got from it compared to the fat split-P tone. Together it was a pity. Hot jazz pup in bridge is a must imho to get a consistant sounding.

I've gone the old DeLuxe way getting the bridge jazz humbucker and I have now a fine output balance (and that good massive look).

Here's my two for showing off. Two small changes since these photos were taken, the burst finish has an Omega bridge on it now (BadAss II design) and the Black & Chrome edition now has a tort pickguard (the "chrome" one is REALLY beat up).
