Unless your fingerboard is also flat than what you have right now is a thumb rest. You're only going to get the benefit of your "ramp" on the outer strings.
Exactly. What is on the bass now would only work (properly) if the fingerboard is flat. I'm not trying to be difficult, but it would be well worth the effort to radius it to match the fingerboard.
Again, not trying to be an arse here....but if you were to radius it than you'd get the full benefit of what a ramp does. I've used one for years....amazing tool.

even with a flat ramp, youre still decreasing the distance between the string and the body by a pretty large amount on the inside strings. it feels way different than having nothing or just using a thumbrest.
The best built bass I've ever seen. On this one both the pickups and the ramp were radiused to match the fingerboard.
Hey Joe...yeah, I figured that, but one would still miss out on the ramp's full advantage. Either way, if it works for the player than it works.

I opted NOT to put a ramp between the pickups on this sweet thang.
Between the extended fingerboard and the radiused pickups, my ramp needs are entirely met. Having the 3/4" gap between the pups is not an issue at all.

Last I heard it was owned by a bass player in NYC. It has a 2" thick chambered alder body, 3 piece maple neck and an australian redgum top. It originally had an ebony board but the ebony cracked and it got a pau ferro board. It also had a suhr preamp, then an aguilar and I believe now it has the nordstrand pre. The suhr pre was incredible. The bass had some of the first pickups that Carey ever made. We went through a few different sets that never worked. It's cool to see that he went from making pickups himself out of curiosity to having it be a big part of what he does. Again, even back then his woodworking and finishing were second to none.

Here's one on my 91 sr886 semi frankenbass lol "really cheap ebay score".
Its made out of black walnut and held on using old pickup screws and mounts.
I'm making another one for a reverse P setup using a pair of emg p6's and a 45dc @ bridge.
