My '74. Got it in '94 for $500. There's a small crack on the neck from falling off my friend's bed. Looks like it was played by a lefty before I got it.

I've thought about getting a Ric before but have found myself recently trying to decide between another EBMM or a Ric. It's a tough decision (well it's actually pretty easy...... neither..........cause I'm broke)

Closest thing I'm likely to get to a pre '74 Mapleglo with all the vintage bells & whistles - this is a mid 70s Kasuga copy - only a bolt on & no stereo output, but it's a beautifully made, great playing & authentic sounding bass.
Unfortunately I don't have the original TRC (which I'd prefer) - it came with a badly faked Ric one - and I couldn't leave that on, could I?
Really, the pics don't do it justice - the body has the loveliest flamed top ever, and the maple board is beautiful. I just wish it had the full-width crushed pearl inlays....

...I play mine with a pick mostly, and I always have to move my arm forward so I can utilize my palm for muting purposes...that bridge looks like the cure....and does it do anything to the sound?(ie - more sustain, more bottom, or brightness?)
...besides the bridge mute getting in the way occasionally, I love my Ric to death
Yes. attack strings fiercely for "Thunder God" effect..overdrive helps achieve this easier.

Good eye! I love the acme's, but honestly they aren't the best match for the rickenbacker. Rickenbacker basses have the distinctive character, but you can't just plug into a direct box and sound like "roundabout" or "red barchetta". The sound is in there, but it needs to be coaxed out with some EQ, some amp grit, and some speaker grit. The acmes are so clean and clear and transparent (I like to call my demeter preamp with qsc plx 2402 and acme cabs a really really loud direct box) that they don't do you any favors in bringing out the rickenbacker flavor. While this is exactly what I want when amplifying my Wals, for example, the Rickenbacker sounds just a little bit plain through them.

mmm...ric...now THIS is my dream come true...had a choice between a thrashed but playable 60s Hofner 500/1 or this 79 beauty for the same price...it's obvious which i picked
